what's funny to me is how often they bring up re-election chances in 2020, like give it up already, no way America is dumb enough to give that ***** another term.

Gerrymandering is a powerful thing.

Add in those that share the same views as what trump is selling.

BIG money... more now since those tax cuts actually materialized for the 1%

And the fact that the Dems don't really have a challenger for trump.

There is huge potential that trump could be voted in as  president again.

If I understand correctly, Trump wants $5 billion for the wall.  Which he now claims is not really a concrete wall.  He says that was a Democrat lie even though there is video of Trump promising a big concrete wall.  Dems offered $2 billion or whatever for border security.

If I'm the Democrats, I just answer any complaints about a shutdown that is their fault with "but the President promised the American people the wall would cost them nothing - Mexico was going to pay for it all". At the end of the day, when people vote for politicians, they want to say "I am better off than I was" and the way they typically measure that is more money in their pockets. Trump can lie, cheat, philander, break the law, and be an out-and-out racist and the sad truth is the morality police have nothing on him that can't be forgiven by his voters if they can say they have more money in their pockets at the end of the day. So all of his promises really play to that:

MAGA/build the wall/America first - keep out the immigrants stealing our American jobs, and we don't have to pay a dime for it

Biggest tax cut in history - forget that it is aimed at the top 1%, the average citizen sees that they get $30 more per paycheque in their wallets (at least in the first year) and thinks it is great

Look at the economy - as measured in simple terms by the Dow Jones at record highs (no one really understands the nuance of the numbers or the volatility, just keep pointing out the historic highs - "never been over 26,000 in history before Trump" - because few average folks appreciate that it always trends up long term), so if the country is rich, I must be rich too

So hit him where his promise really hurts - Mexico would pay for it. Play the party line of "we cannot condone what amounts to a $5 billion tax hike to the American public for a wall that will have no real effect. Trump lied to you when he said you wouldn't have to pay for it.

They can save that for January. Fact is, right now, the GOP controls all three levels of government. This is owned entirely by the GOP and their leadership.

Trump has never owned anything in his life.  People really expected him to start now?

The House vote was simply the last gasp, for the know-nothing Freedom Caucasus/Tea part types, before the Dems take over the House.......with Trump, of course characterizing it as some sort of epic and unprecedented victory.   Pure theater.

Can they just put off the vote til tomorrow?  Trump will be on vacation and forget all about it.

Seriously, we see Trump's strategy as the walls begin to close in. He's appealing more and more to his radical base.  Just wait til they come for him with handcuffs...Could we see a US President who actually flees and is held up in some foreign nation trying to avoid extradition?

That would be epic, POTUS in exile haranguing the world from Micronesia.

Dems should keep playing video of Trump claiming "Mexico is paying for the cement wall" intercut with "Ill own the shutdown".  Over and over and over.

Put it on a loop, like "A Christmas Story" on TBS.

Early estimates of the cost of the wall (2 years ago) pegged it at $25 billion, not $5 billion. Couldn't hurt to throw that nugget out there either for the voters. "He's lied to you about not having to pay, and it will cost even more than he's now conceding it will cost you"

Lets face it this imbecile has given the Democrats more than enough material, slowly he is losing the GOP and in time it will be every man for themselves as the GOP starts infighting, it has actually all ready started, he has no chance on being a 2 term President.

Man... reading this is so surreal:

"Mattis stopped Washington in its tracks -- even after months of stunning plot twists in Donald Trump's presidency, and as stock markets plunge, a legal net tightens around the White House andthe government is about to shut down."

Plus Hillary Clinton was the single most unlikable politician ever. Anyone but her and I suspect Donny Moscow never wins anything.

American, Saudi, and Israeli politicians do not care about Syrian people,  or Assad. They wanted to stick it to Iran, and Russia.
If they had stayed out of Syria, the war probably would have ended quickly, and the thousands of refugees from there would not have gone to Europe.

I doubt that most Americans are upset about their troops coming home, or care at all what happens in Syria.
Spend the money on something at home. They need it there.

yes the Democrats screwing over Bernie Sanders (who would have been a terrible president too) was the reason they lost.  Say what you want, but the Clintons sure run corrupt campaigns.
