Hundreds of police officers in the United States have been trained by right-wing extremists: report

Hundreds of cops across the United States have been taught by individuals who espouse far-right extremist views, according to a new investigation that was published Friday to sound the alarm on a burgeoning and unregulated private training industry.

Reuters identified five law enforcement trainers who have been hired by police and sheriffs' departments nationwide despite their support for right-wing militia groups, including the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and Three Percenters; the QAnon conspiracy, which baselessly claims that Democrats and Hollywood stars belong to a cabal of Satanist pedophiles and cannibals; and former President Donald Trump's "Big Lie" that the 2020 election was stolen.

Some use bigoted instructional materials that promote racism, misogyny, and transphobia, and many endorse the constitutional sheriff philosophy, which maintains that county sheriffs should refuse to uphold any law they find unconstitutional.

"Adherents to the constitutional sheriff movement consider the federal government a grave threat to U.S. citizens," Reuters reported. "They argue that local law enforcement is a higher authority, with the power to countermand the decisions of legislatures, courts, and presidents."

Richard Whitehead, one of dozens of active and retired police officers or trainers who were listed in a database of members of the Oath Keepers, "has called for public executions of government officials he sees as disloyal" to Trump, Reuters reported. In a 2020 social media post, he urged cops "to disobey Covid-19 public-health orders from 'tyrannical governors,' adding: 'We are on the brink of civil war.'"

Usual stuff, Charged, and got convictions for a bunch of foot soldiers. Resulting in some light sentences, (considering they were attempting to overthrow the government) which will deter nobody,

but which is enough to satisfy the leaders of the country it seems. And the press, tv, etc.

Upper level perpetrators got nothing to worry about.

so, now  just stalling till republicans get control, and end the inquiry.

Same b.s. as Bush torture.... lock up lydie england...... couple other grunts that did the dirty work..... problem solved.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett Wants To Overturn Roe To Create A “Domestic Supply Of Infants” For Adoption

Buried in the Alito Roe draft opinion is the idea that Roe needs to be overturned to create a domestic supply of infants for adoption.

Read: page 34 of the Alito draft:

This is some Handmaid’s Tale stuff that not long ago would have been attributed to the mind of Margaret Atwood and a few extremist Republican politicians.
There are now five people on the Supreme Court who are willing to use the need for a domestic supply of adoptable infants as a rationale to take away rights from every woman in America.

The problem with creating “a domestic supply of adoptable infants” is that the term itself suggests white American babies. However, the woman who will be disproportionately impacted. In states where abortion is already restricted, most of the women who get abortions are minorities.

The overturning of Roe could lead to the foster care system being overwhelmed with babies, and foster care isn’t a great place to care for and raise a child.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the United States Supreme Court. The highest Court in the land is abusing its power, but no one with influence, power, authority does anything about it.

Wow these people are insane.

"The draft references nearly 1 million women who were seeking to adopt in 2002

,“whereas the domestic supply of infants relinquished at birth or within the first month of life and available to be adopted has become virtually nonexistent.”

This is only the latest evidence that the USA has become irredeemably contaminated with racism, hatred and fear. There are no guarantees that we in Canada will devolve into something similar and all we can do is care for each other and learn from the insanity south of us. We need to learn and live what many Americans have chosen to ignore: that which diminishes one of us diminishes all of us.

Draft Overturning Roe v. Wade Quotes Infamous Witch Trial Judge With Long-Discredited Ideas on Rape.

Justice Alito’s leaked opinion cites Sir Matthew Hale, a 17th-century jurist who conceived the notion that husbands can’t be prosecuted for raping their wives, who sentenced women to death as “witches,” and whose misogyny stood out even in his time.

When U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, in a draft opinion obtained and published this week by Politico, detailed his justifications for overturning Roe v. Wade, he invoked a surprising name given the case’s subject. In writing about abortion, a matter inextricably tied to a woman’s control over her body, Alito chose to quote from Sir Matthew Hale, a 17th-century English jurist whose writings and reasonings have caused enduring damage to women for hundreds of years.

The so-called marital rape exemption — the legal notion that a married woman cannot be raped by her husband — traces to Hale. So does a long-used instruction to jurors to be skeptical of reports of rape. So, in a way, do the infamous Salem witch trials, in which women (and some men) were hanged on or near Gallows Hill.
Hale’s influence in the United States has been on the wane since the 1970s, with one state after another abandoning his legal principles on rape. But Alito’s opinion resurrects Hale, a judge who was considered misogynistic even by his era’s notably low standards. Hale once wrote a long letter to his grandchildren, dispensing life advice, in which he veered into a screed against women, describing them as “chargeable unprofitable people” who “know the ready way to consume an estate, and to ruin a family quickly.” Hale particularly despaired of the changes he saw in young women, writing, “And now the world is altered: young gentlewomen learn to be bold” and “talk loud.”

'Your body is mine': Video shows anti-abortion activists telling pro-choice protestors 'not your choice, not your body'

Countless thousands of Americans supporting and defending a woman’s right to choose an abortion protesting what is expected to be a Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, after a draft opinion was leaked a week ago.

A video posted Saturday appears to show several anti-abortion activists standing on the steps of a New York City church telling people protesting in support of abortion as a constitutional civil right, “You have no choice. Not your choice, not your body, your body is mine.”

Captions on the video attribute those remarks to “FDNY,” the New York City Fire Dept., but that has not been confirmed. The leader of the group is wearing what appears to be an FDNY patch on his pullover, and an “America First” cap. America First is the name of the group headed by Nick Fuentes, who has been called a white nationalist and a white supremacist.

“Not the church, not the state, the people must decide their fate,” the pro-choice protestors chant in the video, which has gone viral over the weekend.

“I am the people,” the anti-choice activist, pounding his chest, declares. “The people have decided, the court has decided, you lose.”

“You have no choice,” he responds to their chants, gesticulating as if he were a ruler. “Not your choice, not your body, your body is mine – and you’re having my baby.”

GOP Crusade Against Abortion Could Lead To Contraception Bans

With Roe v. Wade on the chopping block, Republicans have increasingly been speaking up about other Supreme Court cases they don’t like. After all, with conservatives possessing a 6-3 majority, why not make a wish list?

One of the cases that’s coming up is Griswold v. Connecticut, the 1965 decision that said married couples have a right to contraception access. It struck down a Connecticut law that outlawed the use of birth control devices.

Griswold was a landmark case, ruling against Connecticut on the basis of a married couple’s right to privacy. It set the stage for future decisions ensuring contraception access for unmarried couples, same-sex marriage rights and, of course, abortion access in Roe v. Wade.

Many Republicans abhor Griswold precisely because it is the foundation for so many other decisions.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) recently said it was “constitutionally unsound.” Arizona GOP Senate candidate Blake Masters’ campaign website said he would only support judges “who understand that Roe and Griswold and Casey were wrongly decided, and that there is no constitutional right to abortion.”

In February, Pennsylvania GOP Senate candidate Jeff Bartos called Griswold a “terrible decision.” That same month, Matt DePerno, the Republican nominee for Michigan attorney general, said, “Listen, all these cases that deal — Griswold, Roe v. Wade, Dobbs — these are all state right issues. ... It’s going to be a state right issue on all of these things — as it should be!”

Masters has clarified that he does not favor banning contraceptives.

But if Republicans get what they want ― an overturning of Griswold ― it would kick the issue back to the states and open the door to restrictions or bans on birth control methods, because there would be no federal guarantee of access.

Griswold will not be overturned imminently. Even Amy Coney Barrett admitted as much during her confirmation hearings in 2020, saying, “I think that Griswold is very, very, very, very, very, very unlikely to go anywhere.”

But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. After all, very few people believed Roe would be overturned too.

More crazy rulings will be made by this guy.

Earthjustice opposed his sc nomination.

"Judge Alito has an extreme record on issues that are central to fundamental legal safeguards for public health and our environment, including the scope of the Commerce Clause, which is the constitutional basis for most federal environmental laws. Judge Alito's positions also threaten the ability of average Americans and government agencies to ensure that these laws are enforced.

For example, one of his dissenting opinions concluded that a Congressional ban on possession of machine guns was unconstitutional under the Commerce Clause, contradicting many circuit courts of appeal decisions. Alito's views indicate that he would support Commerce Clause challenges by polluters and developers to public health and environmental laws that Americans have relied upon for decades, including the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act the Endangered Species Act, and the Safe Drinking Water Act.

In other cases, Alito provided the deciding vote in favor of polluters to overturn pro-environmental actions by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). One of these cases overturned an EPA emergency Safe Drinking Water Act clean-up order that protected drinking water for 180,000 people from toxic pollution. Alito also joined another 2-1 Clean Water Act decision that unfairly barred average Americans from court, by creating constitutional barriers that were later essentially overruled by the Supreme Court."

This group is going to put the epa out of business.

They are following Ronald Reagan (the FBI informer) who said that he wanted to shrink government to a size so small that he could then drown it in a bathrtub. Businesses abhor any restriction that might interfere with their ability to make money regardless of any damage to anyone or anything.

I never thought the American idiocy would gain popularity in Canada. But after watching videos of what Jagmeet Singh put up with yesterday I'm   worried. Its pretty impressive how cool he remains during all that. Plus I watched a few minutes of the Con. debate and made the mistake of taking a peek at the comments section. Yikes ! While I still believe this country will not slide into the abyss that the US. has it is worrisome. I don't think it's a large movement but they sure are vocal.
