I believe that simply jogging people’s memory that Trump was just as vigorous a birther on Ted Cruz says all we need to know about whether birtherism is racially motivated.

the thing you need to realize is that "Cruz" is not really a white guy name.  There lots of racism in America directed at people with the name "Cruz."  You may have heard about the ICE raids and the border wall...

Yes, I know that Ted Cruz is a mongrel of Irish, Italian, Cuban, and Carribean descent, and he was born in Canada.  "Mexican name and not born in the USA" is something that resonates with the Trump base regardless of the details, and I very much doubt that Trump would've worked the birther angle against a candidate named Ted Crews.

Trump questioned whether or not he qualified to be President because he was born in Canada, which is obviously quite different from suggesting that Obama was lying about where he was born, saying that he was born in Kenya. (Because he's black and should never have been voted president)

No one has questioned where Cruz was born just whether or not it makes him ineligible to hold the office of President.

Trying to compare the two is ridiculous alt-right stuff.

I can't wait for Trump on Hannity after the election, attacking the GOP, blaming them for his defeat.

Hannity won't know what to do with both his parents fighting, having to choose who to live with after the divorce.

Hilarious that conservatives think they are based on rationality. The reality is thst modern conservativism (excepting the evangelical part) is based on pure unadulterated greed

In a lot of cases......including the evangelical part.

At any rate, someone has seen the light...

He would work the birther angle against any competitor who wasn't born in Canada. He hit every competitor that opposed him with as much furocity that he could regardless of if their name was Bush or Cruz.

IMO they should get rid of the birther rule. You can be the governor of California and be born in Austria. But you can't be born outside of America and be president.

Just to be clear, it was not about whether he was allowed to be president, it was that he was a black-muslim plant from Kenya.

You would need a constitutional amendment to do it. I don't think that there are enough votes to get anything like that passed. I also don't think that there is enough political desire.

But, I agree. let the voters decide who they want as President.

"Lies travel six times faster than the truth."

There is truth to this.

I thought this was the best place to post this article. It is trumps mantra of "fake news", his use of lies and distortions of reality and has been used mostly for politicalization and division.

Solid read about an actual study from MIT on fake news.

Joseph Goebbels had figured that out, with the use of radio, quite a while ago....
