Danny O'Brien will be making his first career QB Start this week, just the 5th by a BC Lion QB since 2012. Sent from my iPad
  2. CFL Game #75 Team Notes – Hamilton at Toronto:  Playoff considerations / Cross-Over: The Tiger-Cats are now in a battle with Ottawa for first place and a bye in the first round of the East Division playoffs. The 2nd place team will face a Western opponent as Cross-Over is certain for a record 3rd straight year. They have a 2-game set with Ottawa who plays Edmonton this week. The games with the REDBLACKS will decide the season series which Ottawa leads 1-0.  Away from home 11-7: Jeremiah Masoli's record is better away from Hamilton at 11-7 than at home (6-9). He is undefeated in two career starts in Toronto (incl. Sep 8/18) and his 4 wins against the Argos are the most among his 17-16 record against any rival. Masoli leads the CFL with 10 games of 300+ yards and is up to #2 with a CFL QB Rating of 81.8 trailing only Bo Levi Mitchell (83.4).  Toronto 6 in a row: The Argos look to avoid a 7th straight defeat - the last time they lost 6 in a row was the final 7 g ames of the 2016 season. For Coach Trestman this is the longest losing streak of his CFL career.  James Franklin: Has been tapped to start after giving way to McLeod Bethel-Thompson for the last 8 games. He is 1-3 as a starter but all 4 came against Edmonton and Winnipeg. This will be his first start vs an Eastern club other than Toronto.  Hamilton up by 10+: In each of their last two losses the Ti-Cats took leads of 10 or more points. In 2018, they have lost 3 times when getting to double-digit leads and are 7-3 overall with 10+ margins. Related to that, Hamilton is a league-best +81 in the 1st Quarter (133-52) and have trailed after 15:00 in just 3 of 14 games. Over the final three Quarters/Overtime however they have been outscored 289-274 (-15).  Luke Tasker 400/5000: Needs 84 yards to reach 1,000 for the third time in the last 4 years. He went over 400 career catches last week and has 402 receptions for 5,140 yards in just 76 games. Of his 402 receptions, 152 have been for 2nd down conversions.  Toronto at half: The Argos have led just once all season long at half time (Jul 7/18 vs Edmonton)  By 1 point: Three of Toronto's 7 home games thus far have been decided by one point.  White, Green & Timmis: The Ti-Cats do not have a running back in the Top 7 rushers but ... have 3 different 100-yard gainers.  Masoli last 5 games: Masoli has been efficient passing with only 3 interceptions compared to 12 TD passes in this 5-game run.  Franklin last game: Took over at QB and directed 2 TD drives in just 4 possessions as BC fought back against BC.  Green & Edwards: Come in with reception streaks - Green is at 33 staright games and Edwards all 35 of his CFL games.
  3. 2018 CFL GAME NOTES WEEK #13 • OTTAWA AT BC LIONS 1. CFL Game #56 Team Notes – Ottawa at BC: - Taking the lead / BC's Close Encounters: Despite a 3-6 record the Lions have taken the lead in every game thus far including 4 times by 10 or more points. BC has led 4 times going into the final 15:00 but managed only a 2-2 mark in those games. Since 2016 the Lions have played 14 games that were decided by 4 points or less and are 4-10 in those close contests. From 2013 to 2015 the reverse was true as BC went 9-6 in their 15 games of 4-point margins or smaller. - Trevor Harris 300+ streak vs BC: Harris has saved his best for BC and has a remarkable streak going. He has started against the Lions 6 times in his career and thrown for 300+ in ALL 6 starts. He has averaged 374 yards per game against BC in his career. Ottawa 41 & 44 points on the road: The REDBLACKS have scored 44 and 41 points in their last two road games. This two-game streak is the FIRST time that any Ottawa team has ever had 40+ in back-to-back away games. The last CFL team to score 40+ in 3 straight road games was Calgary in 2000 (Jul 14/00 - Aug 10/00). - When Trevor Harris throws a TD pass: The REDBLACKS are 5-1 .667 this season when Harris connects for a TD pass; when he has not they are just 1-3 .250. - Manny Arceneaux: The Lions will be without Emmanuel Arceneaux for an extended period for the first time since he missed two games in a row to start 2014. He has been in the lineup for 77 of the last 79 games (Jul 12/14 to Aug 25/18) - therefore BC will be missing his 375 receptions and 45 TDs over that 79-game period. Here is how that adds up: BC Pass Completions / TD Passes since Jul 12/14: 1,685 116 To Emmanuel Arceneaux: 375 45 (22% of completions, 39% of BC TD passes) - Lewis Ward 97%: Ward began his career with a 3-for-4 FG performance in the season opener and since then has not missed a FG attempt (though he did miss one conversion). Ward is now 30-for-31 97% with a streak of 27 makes in a row, the longest streak ever made by a 1st Year player and has included 8 makes from 40+ yards. Overall, his 27 in a row is now #7 all-time in CFL history. Next ahead are 3 players tied at 28 in a row at #4 (Ridgway, Milo & Medlock). With another perfect game and 3 makes this week he can tie Paul McCallum for the 3rd-longest streak in CFL history. His 97% mark is well ahead of the CFL record set by Rene Paredes at 94.7% in 2013 (54-of-57). Greg Ellingson going for 4 in a row: Ellingson comes in with a run of 3 consecutive 100-yard games and that has given him 19 for his career. The last Ottawa player to have 3 consecutive 100+ games was Chris Williams (Wk #1-3 of 2016). The Ottawa record for most consecutive 100-yard games was set by Gerald Alphin in 1989 at 5 in a row at 100+ (Aug 31/89 - Sep 24/89). - Last 3 Ottawa vs BC: The REDBLACKS have won the last 3 games vs BC and that is the longest winning run by any Ottawa team over the Lions since 1974 (a 4-game Rough Rider win streak from 1971 to 1974). All three recent Ottawa wins over BC have been by 7 points or less - in fact the last 5 BC-OTT contests have all been decided by margins of 7 or less (average: 5.8 points). - Since a 4-1 start in 2017: The Lions started last year at 4-1 but since then have been just 6-16 over their most recent 22 games. This is their poorest stretch since a 6-16 record from August 1997 to September 1998. In these most recent 22 games, BC has been much better at home however at 5-6 compared to a 1-10 away record. - T.J. Lee: Leads the CFL with 10 pass knockdowns, 3 more than any other player and he has had at least one in the last 4 games. He is the only DB that currently leads his team in Defensive Plays (54). All other team leaders are Linebackers. - High Offence BC-OTT recent games: The last 4 BC-Ottawa games have all seen high performance offence. BC went over 400 yards in all 4 vs the Ottawa defence, while Ottawa has averaged 454 yards vs the BC defensive unit. The 4 games have averaged 59.3 points and all were decided in the last 3:00. - Ottawa vs the West: The REDBLACKS are the only East Division team with a winning record vs the West in 2018. They are the only Eastern club to have a winning record in any season since 2016 vs the West and can extend that to 4-2 with a win this week in Vancouver. Ottawa has won 2 of their last 3 visits to B.C. Place. - Ty Long 12-for-12: At home this year, Long has not missed a FG attempt and is 12-of-12. On the road in 2018 he is 9-of-12 75%. Last year, of Long's 5 missed FG attempts 4 were at B.C. Place Stadium where he went 21-of-25. He is now 33-of-37 at home overall. - Brad Sinopoli 68 catches: Sinopoli had 5 catches last game and is on pace for 122 receptions (122.4) which would challenge Allen Pitts #2 all-time mark from 1994 at 126 and Don Narcisse's 123 in 1995. - Travis Lulay start #7 in a row: The last time that Travis Lulay started 7 games in a row was the Lions' first 9 games of 2015. Lulay is 2-4 as a starter this year but the 4 defeats have come by slim margins of just 1, 4, 9 & 3 points. - Richie Leone 5 in a row: Has a unique streak of 5 games in a row with a punt that has pinned the opposition inside their own 10- yard line. His NET punt average is 39.5 yards and he now leads the CFL in that critical measure. - Ottawa held without a TD: The REDBLACKS did not score on offence last week; that was the third time this season they have failed to score on at least one drive in a game. In 2017, they scored at least once in EVERY game. - Rainey 3000 yard pace: With 187 yards in BC's last game, Rainey got back onto 3K pace for combined yards and leads the CFL with 1,525 after 9 games. He led the CFL in 2017 with 3,181 yards, the first time that a BC Lion player had ever gone over 3,000 in one year. _________________________________________________________________________________________________
  4. 👁‍🗨Whoa..it’s been a long week..crying, denying, accusations, call outs and apologies. And that’s just been in my house..😮 CFL.ca CFL Game #52 Team Notes – Montréal at Ottawa: - 303 yards passing / 2 TDs same game: Last week Antonio Pipkin led Montreal to their 25-22 win becoming the first Montreal QB to EVER throw for 300+ yards and score 2 TDs in the same game across their entire history (Sam Etcheverry never scored more than 1 TD in a game). It was the first 300-yard passing effort by an Als' QB since Darian Durant had 300+ exactly one year ago (316 vs WPG on Aug 24/17). Pipkin was 22-of-32 for 303 yards including 7-for-8 for 101 yards in the 4th Quarter. Pipkin was the first Montreal QB to score 2 TDs in a game since Sep 7/14 (Tanner Marsh). - Last week's win vs Toronto: The Alouettes played their best game of the season in a critical home contest vs the Argos. Montreal snapped a club record 9-game HOME losing streak, the last 8 of which they had lost by an average margin of 25.9 points per game. Their win over Toronto was built around their first 300-yard passing effort of 2018 and a season-high 22 first downs. - A win on the road: The Alouettes look to turn around a road run that has seen them go 1-12 in their last 13 away from Montreal. They are 1-4 this year with a win in Regina but have not won an East Division away game since Nov 5/16 at Hamilton. They come in with 5-game East Division road losing streak. Two with 100+ Tackles?: The Alouettes have the Top 2 tacklers in the CFL this year with both Henoc Muamba and Chris Ackie at 64 on pace for 115 by season's end. NO CFL team has EVER had the Top 2 tacklers in the same season since the league started recording this game data in 1989. BC in 2016 (Elimimian & Bighill) is the only team to ever have two 100+ tacklers in one season. And as a final note, Branden Dozier's pace (97) is also near 100 which could potentially make three Alouettes over the century mark. - Trevor Harris 1,229 yards: Has led the REDBLACKS to 4 wins in their last 5 games and will be making career start #52 (27-22-2). Harris' 3-game passing yardage total of 1,229 yards (381, 487, 361) is the most by any CFL QBG since 2015 (Henry Burris 1,294 in a 3- game span) and second-highest since Anthony Calvillo's 1,242 yards in September 2003. Harris' career record vs Montreal is his best against any opponent with 7 victories and just one loss. Of his 25 career 300+ yard games, 5 have come against the Alouettes. Harris leads the CFL in completion % at 69.6%. Richie Leone: Has a unique streak of 4 games in a row with a punt that has pinned the opposition inside their own 10-yard line. Over his last two games his NET punt average is 43.2 yards and he now leads the CFL in that critical measure. - 76 players / 54 starters: Last year Montreal used a club record 83 players. This year just beyond half-way, they are already at 76 players who have played at least one game. They have had 54 different starters in 10 games. - A.C. Leonard 4 in a row: Has a current streak of 4 consecutive games with a QB Sack. That matches the longest streak by any REDBLACKS player tying Justin Capicciotti's 4-game run of Aug 23/15 - Sep 19/15. - John Bowman: Recorded his second Sack of the season last week and now has 123, just 3 behind Stewart Hill who ranks #7 all-time with 126. Bowman recorded his 200th career start last week. - William Powell 4 100's: Comes into this game riding back-to-back 100-yard rushing efforts and has 4 for the season - as many as he had all last year and a career-high. The last Ottawa player to have 5 games of 100+ yards in a season was Josh Ranek in 2003. Lewis Ward 96%: Ward began his career with a 3-for-4 FG performance in the season opener and since then has not missed a FG attempt (though he did miss one conversion). Ward is now 27-for-28 96.4% with a streak of 24 makes in a row, the longest streak ever made by a 1st Year player - his 24 straight has included 7 from 40+ yards. Last week's comeback: Montreal was able to overcome a 6-point deficit last week vs Toronto and post their first comeback victory since Jul 14/17 vs Calgary, a span of 24 games. - 36 points per game: Ottawa has rolled up point totals of 41, 24 and 44 points including 12 TD drives in just 41 total possessions. Their TD drive % has been 21% over those 3 contests compared to just 10% (9 TDs on 89 drives) over the first 6 games. - Way Out in Front - 61 to 28: The REDBLACKS have built some very large leads of late in winning 4 of 5. In their last 4 games they have pulled out to leads of 10, 24, 7 and 24 points and outscored the opposition by a combined 61-28 in the 1st half. Brad Sinopoli 126?: Was held to just 3 catches last game stopping his streak of 4 or more at 9 games. However, he remains on pace for 126 receptions which would tie Allen Pitts #2 all-time mark from 1994. - Greg Ellingson: Went six games without going over 100 yards but now has back-to-back games with 110 and 100 in the last two. For his career he has 5,592 yards in 83 games, an average of 67.4 yards per game which ranks #21 all-time in CFL history. With 19 catches in his last 2 games he is at 100 reception pace which would be a career best. - William Stanback: Stepped in for an injured Tyrell Sutton last week and gained 53 yards on the ground. He has now run the ball 16 times averaging 6.8 yards per carry in his limited opportunities as the #1 run option for Montreal. 5. Game Notes - CFL.ca 👁‍🗨 1-2 combo: 9/21: The Bombers have allowed just nine sacks, fewest in the CFL, and have 21 quarterback sacks – most in the league. Bombers vs REDBLACKS: Ottawa has won once in Winnipeg since joining the CFL in 2014 but overall are 4-4 vs the Bombers despite losses in their last three meetings. Matt Nichols has started the last 6 games for Winnipeg vs Ottawa and is 3-3. A key statistic from last year's season series was the Bombers' 5-1 advantage in the Turnover battle which aided their sweep. 👁‍🗨An amazing stat - +16 point leads in 5 games in a row: The Bombers have built at least a 16-point lead in each of their last 5 games - that is just one short of the club record of 6 straight set in 1981 (Sep 27/81-Nov 1/81: leads of +36, +24, +31, +32, +20, +38). The CFL record is games in a row with a lead of 16 points Trevor Harris: Last week, Harris completed 44-of-54 passes and was just one completion short of the CFL record of 45 set by Henry Burris on Oct 1/15 (45/53). Harris' 54 attempts were the most ever thrown in Ottawa history, and in the 4th Quarter alone last week, Harris went 12-of-15 for 128 yards in leading his 11th career Q4 Game-winning drive. - Fastest to 60 Receptions: This year Brad Sinopoli has a CFL-leading 60 catches in his first 8 games. - 40 wins for O'Shea: Last week's win over Hamilton was the 40th of his regular season career. Mike can move up to #5 all-time in Blue Bombers history with a win this week and move ahead of Mike Riley - he can be as high as #4 by season's end with a 5-5 finish. 1st Down Rushing Avg: Despite having the CFL's #2 rusher in William Powell, the REDBLACKS have averaged the lowest number of yards on 1st down rushing plays. They have gained just 4.8 yards per 1st down rush and that ranks #9 overall. By contrast, Winnipeg is tied with Montreal for #1 in the CFL at 6.2 yards per 1st down rush. Since 2015, Ottawa has the most wins vs Western clubs of any East Division team with 15. - Lewis Ward 96%: Ward began his career with a 3-for-4 FG performance in the season opener and since then has not missed a kick of any kind. Ward is now 25-for-26 96.2% with a streak of 22 makes in a row, the longest streak ever made by a 1st Year player. 👁‍🗨Not too bad for an undrafted player.. - Greg Ellingson: Had a huge bounce-back game last week with 11 catches for 110 yards, his first 100-yard game since Game #1. His 11-catch total compared to just 12 in his previous 4 games, the lowest 4-game total he had had since m id-2016. - Ottawa's 4th Q Game-winning drive: The REDBLACKS' 4th Quarter GW drive last week was their 5th across the 2017-18 seasons. That ranks #3 in the CFL over this two-year span: #1 Edmonton 8, #2 Toronto 7, #3 Ottawa 5. Their game-winning TD last week came with 0:15 to play after a 7-play, 69 yard march in 2:06. - Ottawa’s Brad Sinopoli already has 60 receptions through eight games. He is one of only three players in CFL history to have accomplished that feat, joining Derrell Mitchell (64 catches in seven games in 1998, en route to a league-record 160) and Allen Pitts (62 catches in eight games, finishing with 118). CFL Game #44 Team Trends – Ottawa at Winnipeg: - Andrew Harris 6,988: Needs the following rushing yard totals this week to achieve a variety of accomplishments: - 7 yards to pass Earl Lunsford (6,994) for #14 all-time - 12 yards to become the 14th player to reach 7,000 for his career - 20 yards to pass **** Shatto (7,007 corrected career total) for #13 all-time - 73 yards to pass Jim Evenson (7,060) for #12 all-time - Bombers East & West: The Bombers are 1-2 vs Western rivals but a solid 4-1 vs the East. They are 16-5 vs the East since 2016. - 17-2, 23-4: Over the last 3 years (2016-18), Winnipeg is 17-2 when they lead after the 1st Quarter and 23-4 with a half-time lead. - Deep TD throws: The Bombers have given up a CFL-low 2 TD passes on 20+ yard throws; Ottawa has allowed a league-high of 8. - 2-Pt Convert comparison: The Bombers have attempted a CFL-low 1 two-point convert; Ottawa has tried a league-high of 9. - 1st Half vs 2nd Half: The Bombers have a +96 scoring margin in the 1st half thus far; but ... they are just +1 in 2nd halves. - 1st Half vs 2nd Half II: Ottawa also is 1st Half strong at +20 in the first 30:00 and ... are -5 in 2nd halves. Random CFL Notes and streaks: - Most QB Starters Single Season: Montreal has used 4 different QB starters this year and with Johnny Manziel questionable for Week #10 may lead to Antonio Pipkin or Matthew Shiltz being #5 for them. The CFL record is 6 different starters by Winnipeg in 1983 (Dieter Brock, Tom Clements, Norman Gibbs, Nickie Hall, John Hufnagel and Mark Jackson). - Calgary +17 T/O Ratio: The Stamps are at +17 for their 2018 Turnover advantage - that +17 mark after 7 games is on pace for +44 which would break the CFL record set by Edmonton in 1981 at +41. Calgary's club record is +27 set in 1996. - McLeod Bethel-Thompson: Led the Argos to a 42-41 victory over Ottawa. Here are a few superlatives from that game 1) From 24 down I: The Argo comeback matched the 8th-largest in CFL history, just 3 points short of the CFL record from 27 points. 2) From 24 down II: 2nd-largest in Argos' history, one point less than their 25-point recovery of Oct 2/94 (11-36 to HAM, won 39-36). 3) Half-time deficit: They trailed by 21 at half-time and won matching the 3rd-largest in CFL history after 30:00 of play. 4) 4 TD pass debut: One of six players with 4 TD passes in their 1st career start. CFL record: An incredible 8 TDs by Joe Zuger 1962) (Ricky Ray 2002, Matt Dunigan 1984, Condredge Holloway 1975, and Ron Reeves 1983 also had 4 TD debuts) 5) 2nd Half Passing: Bethel-Thompson passed for 233 yards and 4 TDs in the 2nd half alone. 6) Q4 game-winning drive: Drove 86 yards on 11 plays in 1:44 going 5-of-7 for 60 yards with completions to four different receivers. - Calgary +14: Stamps tied a CFL record at 7 games in a row with at least a 14-pt lead matching the 1982 Bombers and 2011 Lions. – Bombers safety Taylor Loffler on the evolving defence: We’re doing a lot of different things, changing the looks up, which is nice, from the previous years. Our defence is able to do that and it’s made a big👁‍🗨(hill) difference out there. It gives the offence we’re playng against different looks and they can’t know exactly what we’re going to do every time. We’ve definitely come a long ways and we definitely still have a long ways to go. But it’s really looking up right now and we just need to keep going from here. We had a little bit of a rocky path there to start… we’d have a good game and then have a bad game, but we’ve been a lot more consistent over the last month and just keep steadily improving. We can’t take a step back. We have to keep going on an upward path.”
  6. BIG GAME ALERT! By The Numbers - CFL STAFF 3 – Special teams categories in which the Eskimos sit dead last (punt average, kickoff average, punt-return average). 5 — League-high rushing touchdowns for BC’s Jeremiah Johnson. 31:57 — Average possession time between Edmonton (31:54) and BC (32:00), the two teams who’ve enjoyed the highest share of the football in the CFL. 86.9 – QUAR rating for Edmonton’s Mike Reilly, second only to Ottawa’s Trevor Harris. The Eskimos started 2017 with a win on the road at BC to take a 1-0 lead and can wrap up the season series with BC (gaining a potentially valuable tie-breaker) this week. Edmonton has won 6 of the last 8 games in this matchup including wins in 4 of the 5 games started by Jonathon Jennings. Mike Reilly Ints: The Esks' QB has yet to throw an interception 4 games and 140 passes into 2017 and in any of his last 6 starts (211 attempts) BC's Solomon Elimimian leads not only in tackles but in total defensive plays as well. To his 40 defensive stops, you can add 3 QB Pressures, a fumble recovery and a Tackle for Loss for 45 in total, one ahead of Kyries Hebert at 44. The Lions offence is #1 in the CFL at 405.4 yards per game while Edmonton's is at #6 (367). BC's 21% via the rush is #4 in the CFL while Edmonton's 23% trails only Montreal (27% of their yards have been by rushing plays
