  1. Number of points required (combination of Jets points gained and other teams' points lost) to clinch (Jets hold the tiebreaker against every other team):

April 18: last day of the regular season. Jets can still earn 2 points (110 total)-

Jets have guaranteed no worse than a 7th place finish (ahead of Colorado and Edmonton) and have clinched no worse than 2nd in the Central Division.

Magic number of 1 to clinch 6th in the league (ahead of Boston)

Magic number of 2 to clinch 5th in the league (ahead of Florida)

Magic number of 3 to clinch 4th in the league (ahead of Vancouver)

Jets eliminated from President’s Trophy, Western Conference top spot, and Central Division title contention. Can finish no better than 4th in the NHL (behind NYR, Dal, Car)

Based on current points percentage, projected final points for each team - teams in bold have completed their season (Jets current total of 108 points has them already securing 2nd in the Central, 3rd in the West, 7th in the league, and projected to finish 2nd in the Central, 3rd in the West, and 6th in the NHL)

    April 17 story:

In the Central, Dallas locks up the #1 seed in the West with their win, and Arizona goes quietly into that good night, completing their desert odyssey before hundreds of adoring fans.

In the Pacific, nothing but the McDavid watch as he stalls on 100 assists with Edmonton’s loss.

In the Atlantic, Kucherov hits his milestone number but Matthews falls short of his at the Bolts top the Buds.

In the Metro, the Isles beat the Pens as Crosby winds up a pretty impressive year that just wasn’t enough, and Jeff Carter calls it a career.

The East playoff picture is complete.

     April 18 key match-ups:

An all-West final night, with a few things left to decide:

Van @ Wpg - #2 seed and potential home ice in the 3rd round goes to the winner, as well as “best team in Canada” bragging rights. Jets also in the running to win the Jennings Trophy if they can hold the Canucks to 2 or less goals.

Ana @ Veg - a win clinches 3rd in the Pacific for the Knights, and the task of facing the Oilers in Round 1. If they fall to the wildcard spot, they face the Stars.

Chi @ LA - if the Knights lose, the Kings have a chance to capture 3rd (if the teams end up tied, LA had the tiebreaker). A Vegas OT loss and the Kings need the win, if Vegas loses in regulation then the Kings only need to get the game to extra time to take 3rd place.

So apparently(did not know this) the 2 years to sign your draft pick rule is CHL related. NCAA picks are 3.

See you next year for more of the same.

Oh, so he's still under control for his senior year? Yeah, then it's best if he goes back to Michigan next year. I thought the clock ran out next summer.

Boy, I wish someone had posted this information somewhere, like maybe in this thread last Sunday at 9:40 pm. 😉

  3. Playoff positions and potential match-ups entering April 16 (all match-ups could be settled as early as end of night tonight)

Dal could play LA, Nas, or Veg with home ice

Wpg plays Col, home ice to be determined

Fla could play Tor or TB with home ice

Tor could play Bos or Fla

TB could play Bos or Fla

Det needs a win and a loss in any fashion by Was, OR an OT/SO loss and a regulation loss by Was and a loss in any fashion by Pit

Pit needs a win and losses by Was and Det in any fashion, OR an OT/SO loss and regulation losses by Was and Det and a loss by Phi in any fashion

Angel Hernandez was at it again last night 3 consecutive pitches out of the strike zone all called strikes, he should have been fired years ago but after last night apparently being incompetent is part of the job.

After the Mike McIntyre puff piece, I just have this bad feeling he's going back to Uni and thus the 2025 draft.

My understanding of the draft rules is that as a US college eligible player aged 18, the team holds his draft rights until August 15 after he graduates from college, provided he does not leave school early. If he does, then they hold his rights until June 1,  4 years after his draft year. So the Jets should have his rights until 2026. Different rules than for CHL players (two years) and college players drafted at age 20 (two years).

This is very much looking like the team who allowed 3 or less for 30 plus games. That bodes well for playoffs. Jets a tough out.

They should have put him in for 30 seconds this game and play him the last 2.

Problem is you put him in today even for 30 seconds and Hellebuyck does not get credit for a shutout.

  8. This is for Helle, but also for LB who I owe it to from Thursday:

Jets now 4 goals ahead of Florida (and counting, 2-2 game vs Buffalo in the 2nd) with an extra game to play in the Jennings chase. Sadly, if they pull it off, Brossoit will not get his name on the trophy as he will fall short of the 25 game threshold to qualify.

  9. Took a quick listen to Avs radio. I get not being rah-rah when the visitors score, but even at 1-0 they make it sound like a funeral. At 7-0 they sound like they are prepping for self immolation.

And Avs Twitter losing its mind. At least this guy has a sense of humour about it.

Wonder how many of those Jets fans who were “so done with this team” two weeks ago are quietly slinking back today?

Only downside so far is that Dallas officially clinched top spot in the Central with their win today. Then again, given the season series result, Jets should be fairly happy to draw the Avs in Round 1, which is now a certainty.
