Another lber idr their name some pretty heinous domestic abuse stuff. I for sure think there is a precedent, if Kelly’s case ends up at that point. I do think Kelly is a ticking time bomber though.

Glory days. Same era the nfl had Alstott.
nfl fb useage is up a significant portion of late as well with bigger more athletic guys available at those te/hback positions don’t be surprised to see fb continue to rise. Especially considering the rb by committee that is popular.

The linemen are always the best guys to listen to. Tsn needs to learn that lesson.

I think the LB you were referring to was an import player with the Riders who was HIV-positive, knew it and yet had unprotected sex with various local women. I believe he was convicted of ACBH and spent a few years as a guest of Her Majesty's government and then deported.

Don't fully understand why they wouldn't attend, are they being advised by their agents not to waste their time on the CFL, or do they think they're too good for the league?  If so the CFL has a serious image problem among college aged players.  If you graduated from college would you limit sending your resume only to the top employer and not cover your bases more broadly?  If good enough maybe 1 or 2 of these guys will kick around on NFL PR's for a few years before kicking back to the CFL or quitting football entirely. I can see why the Bombers emphasize picking guys who really love playing football over players just in the sport to make as much money as they can.

Still recall the many wasted years waiting for Christo Bilukidi and Andy Mulumba to give up their NFL dream and return to the Bombers, neither of them ever did, nor did they establish themselves in the NFL as starters, thus forgettable careers.  Contrast with what Pat Neufeld has accomplished even with a poor combine showing, establishing himself as a 12 year CFL starter.  I seriously doubt any of the OL guys skipping the CFL Combine for bigger things, will ever match his career.

Great video, especially when Neuf. answers questions sent in by Stanley, Chris K, and Jake.  He also sheds a bit of light on why they kept Tanner Schmeckle.

i was surprised and impressed with Paddy's poise and intelligence during the interview. He would make a great TV analyst/commentator when he's done pushing people around.

I'm not dismissing it. Really. Just presenting the other side of the coin while  people gather up their torches and pitchforks.

I have no trouble at all believing that a pro athlete hit on a coworker and crossed a boundary. Especially in this day and age where boundaries for that are basically set at zero-tolerance by default (which I have no beef with).

And yeah, we know that he's a loon. But he's now been painted as a sexual harasser in national media. That's a different sort of reputational hit. And if it was because he asked a girl out at work, that's pretty harsh.

No one is saying that we ought to have the hanging before the investigation. There have been provably false accusations but the vast majority who come forward are ordinary people who have been savaged, and if there is one victim, it is almost automatic that there have been others who kept silent. I do not know if the statistics have changed, but some 20 years ago, about 80% of victims never spoke out, allowing the offender to move on to the next target.

I guess where this is much ado about something after all. As much as I like giving Bluto the gears, I hope this doesn't result in Kelly having his contract/CFL career terminated. We need all our star QBs.

No way in Hell that the CFL needs a sexual predator as even a minor player, let alone a star. I have worked with raped women and even my late wife who was a nurse suffered because of this sort of thing on the job. The damage is catastrophic in many cases, and rape has nothing to do with sexual gratification. It is an act intended to humiliate the victim and reduce her/him to an object of powerlessness and utter defeat. Most predators have been victims or vicarious victims but that in no way excuses them from responsibility or consequences.

  5. CFL opens investigation into allegations made against Toronto Argos, Chad Kelly
The Canadian Football League has started its inquest into the lawsuit filed against the Toronto Argonauts and franchise quarterback Chad Kelly.CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie issued the following statement on Wednesday afternoon:
“The CFL is committed to creating healthy and positive working and playing environments for all those associated with the league and its member clubs.

We take the allegations against the Toronto Argonauts and Mr. Kelly very seriously and we have opened an investigation in accordance with the league’s Gender-based Violence Policy.

Out of respect for this process and all the parties involved, we will not be able to provide further comment until our investigation has been completed.”

Why does it have to go to court?

Both the CFL and the Argos will definitely have a harassment policy. The CFL Contracts may have a character clause.

The courts are going to test: Is this a human rights offense? Was she wrongfully terminated?

What if everything that is recorded in the lawsuit happened exactly as described BUT the courts find that Kelly's actions didn't rise to the level of infringing on her human rights and due to the nature of her rolling contract the Argos were within their rights to not renew it. Does Kelly just get a pat on the back and told not to do it again or should their be consequences to someone's shitty actions. If you go directly to her (former) supervisor and he confirms that this is exactly what happens, don't you have grounds to act without hearing the courts?

The employer has not only a right but a duty to protect employees from a toxic workplace, and can be named jointly in any civil suit if they did not act according to team/league/ societal standards. And remember- in a civil suit the plaintiff does not have to establish proof beyond a reasonable doubt, but just a simple preponderance of evidence.

That’s a pretty sweet idea. I’d love to see some thing like that with seat numbers on jerseys for season ticket holders on a premium plan

Biggie wasn’t the hero. But he wasn’t the goat. He’s right, he was in no way designed to be the deep man or man lock in that situation. He tried to bail out a cover mistake. Which happens when you’re in cover 0 soo much.
I might take a look at the angles available for a break down on that play, in betting Houston was the one who blew cover.

In saying that Bighill was the goat, I meant that he was the one in chase position- a race he would lose most times even when younger and healthier. And yes, i would bet on Houston being who screwed up, that was not obvious- Bighill's futile attempt was.

  8. Yes, Bighill was the goat on that horrible play, but from his comments, it seems that he was covering for someone who was consistently screwing up- probably the inside  halfback on that side. Bighill was probably hobbled and ought not to have played, but ultimately it was the defensive coordinator who made the call.

Do you not recognize a football locker room as an extremely rarefied environment that is seldom duplicated within the rest of society?  I would also advise my daughter not to become a prison guard for her own mental and physical well being.  You can wish for a rainbow and unicorn world all you like but that's not yet the current reality, and looking around at the world today, I'm not sure it's even on the distant horizon.

I wouldn't tell my son to work as prison guard., either. I know enough of them to say that it is a stressful job at best and toxic at worst, and the inmates are not the only problem.

I think that signing Schoen, and BO are two pretty big fish. Yes, they played here last year but both had hit the open market at the time we re-signed them. I mean it's not too hard to figure out why we didn't go on any kind of a spending spree, look at our roster. Compare it to other teams and you will see a great deal of the high end talent was already here. The top 2-3 teams in the league rarely get better in FA, they are fending off the jackals and hyenas from picking their roster apart. Take a look at TO, and BC who have hemmoraged top end talent in comparison, and only started adding back because they were picked over. We retained the majority of our talent and thus had little need to go splashing around in the overpriced market of FA. That being said Streveler, and Ford are two very big additions as well.

Your logic is sound, but on an emotional level, it still sucks.
