I'm not saying they have to be re-signed at any cost.
I just don't think it is as simple as saying the old core didn't work so ship them all out.
We got one sentence from Maurice in that interview, none of us knows really what that means. The alternative plan could have been trading Kane.
They kept Frolik for one year knowing they could lose him.
You can't always be trading for the future as then the future will never come. If we trade Ladd and Buff I don't think we make the playoffs again next year and this group needs to taste that. Experience that.
You probably shop them around but unless you are getting a lopsided deal, I don't trade them. Certainly not both of them.
If you keep them and make the playoffs great. If you keep them and are out then you get some deadline day deals. If you keep them and we are on the bubble again, well sucks to be us.

Glad nobody on this board is the GM...
Who is going to replace their leadership ? Points? Nobody we have right now will replace them.
You sign these heart and soul players, you don't trade them.
I don't disagree that the players you mentioned are the future of the team but we need Ladd and Buff's points and leadership and nobody we have can replace them....my opinion.

You can have prospects, but you pay a guy like Buff. You need your veterans.

I'd get rid of Ladd long before I got rid of Buff. Buff is our identity.

Apparently Bergenheim has fallen out of favor in Florida, The Coach Gerald Gallant apparently is not a big fan of his. Apparently Bergenheim doesn't always give 100 percent at all times, Not sure how true this is as i watch zero florida games but i'd suspect Bergenheim could be had for pretty cheap actually. Lebrun also reporting the Jets have interest in another Florida UFA to be, Thomas Fleischmann.

Trades like this, I'm all for, you won't have to give much up and these guys are UFA's at the end of the season so they can walk really... and it's not a big deal really.

Postma plus a late pick might be enough actually. Winnik, apparently leafs want a second for him, if Winnik could be re-signed, i might pay that but.. I'm not sure he would be willing too. Maybe but... Doubt i'd be moving 2nd round picks and prospects for him. Our prospect pool is looking ok...

Morrissey,Ehlers,Petan,Copp,Armia,Lemieux,Comrie are all some pretty solid prospects but after that.. It does get a little bit bare. I wouldn't move any of those guys out for a rental that's for sure. We are a bubble playoff team at the moment, the teams behind us are catching up... don't look now but LA has won 6 straight... we have played more games than the teams behind us too, they have games in hand on us, We are a bubble team for sure... would really suck to go all in and then not make the playoffs... but give up something that could help us in the future. This team seems to be built for sustained success, not just have 1 good season and that's it, they want to be good every year, be a legit playoff contender, not a bubble team fighting it out until the end of the regular season really.. I'm not sure it's wise to move prospects we are high on for UFA rentals at the moment. If we were having a year like Nashville has been, sure go for it but reality is, we are very much a bubble team right now and for as much as i want this team to make the playoffs, i'm not selling off the future when reality seems to indicate that for as close as we are to making the playoffs, there are teams behind us who are just as close as we are... I don't know. Jets need to go on a roll and win win win otherwise in a week or 2, we may be on the outside looking in.

The city of Detroit teeters on the edge of economic apocalypse, but the Red Wings retain their players and attract the occasional noteworthy free agent.  They are the franchise the Jets should be modeled after - they draft well, the players come up thru a great system and are treated well by a quality organization, families settle in long enough to see there is more to that city than just being the butt of easy jokes from outsiders (sound familiar?), and the pieces needed from outside the organization become less and less over time.  And they aren't as hard to get, because free agents look and see that despite being able to go anywhere, Zetterberg and Datsyuk want to be in Detroit.  There must be a reason.

The opportunity to win and a good environment for the players is exactly how this team can disappear from that list.

Enstrom is key to our defence and despite any single pass you can p oint out is arguably the best passer on the team Trouba is very good and clears the zone too. Trouba makes the fewest mistakes of our D. Enstrom gets major minutes from Maurice for a reason. I have to admit though, do not like him paired with Buff. Besides, when he is paired with Myers, it is so easy to tell them apart!

Great comeback last night and I just wish I had the chance to watch more games. Clutchinson played a pretty good game and I think he outplayed Howard. The Jets have the best D in the league right now even if Ben and Stuart didn't see much ice time last night. I wonder if Trouba signs a bridge contract or goes straight for the big contract. If I'm Chevy I sign him as long as I can, throw 7-7.5 at Buff and Ladd has to get at least 6? I heard Chevy say that we'll probably see Armia before the season is over.

I could take the pay but I'm glad I'm not the GM too.

Stafford was not a major part of this deal and I honestly think he will fit in nicely this year. Will he be here next year? I'd sign him for 2-3 years if he pans out but not at the 4m he is currently making. 7.8 for 3 years sounds about right  to  me...he can move down to the 4th line once our young players make the team.

He's only 23, give him a 3 year contract and he should be coming into his prime when it is coming up for renegotiaion. Can't have all of them making 5+. Someone has to get less minutes and salary. I really liked the way that pairing (him and Buff) played together. He ate up a lot of minutes when the injury bug attacked our D.

Should be able to get Chiarot for a good deal.
I'd also try to get trouba into an 8 year deal but he might want a shorter one to maximize his return down the road. We could also sign him to a deal that takes him just before UFA with the intent to then sign him to an 8 year deal. End result is trouba here longer.

Babcock was asked about the jets d and put over buff, Myers and trouba then said Enstrom had more
Hockey sense then all of them
People get down on enstrom. But he's a very very good d man. We are lucky to have him. Especially down that weaker left side

I don't believe in keeping players if they aren't going to stay with the team...same as rentals, unless you are close to winning the cup. If Fro isn't going to be here next year, trade him for whatever you can get for him.
Wrap him up in a package for a top 6 forward? Fro, Stuart, Burmi and a 1st for a young top 6? As stated above, Fro is a good 3rd liner and I think he is really good on the PK. I wouldn't over pay and I wouldn't let him walk without something in return. Now, if you are close to signing him and think it will happen, by all means keep him as he will help us make the playoffs and then in the playoffs.

Hoping Armia will crack the top 6 in a couple of years but he should be a shoe in for a 3rd liner as Lemieux would be a 3rd liner. Petan in the middle of Armia/Perrault and Lemieux in 2 to 3 years? Schief, Ehlers and Armia/Perrault The above mentioned trade for a top 6 winger would have to go somewhere too. Lowry would center Komaschuk and ???.

I REALLY like our D pairings right now although I will like it better with Morrissey on the team. Paying Myers half of what he is worth makes him affordable on the D.

do you pay frolik the same you pay bryan little? Isn't little making like 4.7 per year? If Frolik is looking for between 4.5 and 5 milion, i'd let him go elsewhere to get it cuz reality is, he's a 3rd line winger on a good team. I doubt they move him b4 the deadline, but i really don't see them signing him for anything more than 4 million. He's a 3rd line winger, 4 million is as high as i would go with an offer for him. He's a good player but... he doesn't deserve to be paid anywhere near close to what Little is making.

In my eyes, +/- is really more of a team stat, and Buffalo is a horrible team right now.  I wouldn’t worry too much about his numbers in Buffalo.

I was reading some fan comments from one of Buffalo’s papers last night on the trade, and the consensus there seems to be that Myers & Stafford are soft & overpaid and they are glad to be getting rid of them.  They seem to think Myers is going to get eaten alive going to the West and happy to be getting a couple of hardnosed, physical, Western players.

Which I got a bit of a chuckle at because it wasn’t that long ago that the Jets were a “soft” Eastern team that everyone thought was going to get eaten alive in the West, including Bogo and Kane.

It took Maurice and his staff half a season and an off season to focus the Jets into the team they are now.  Look at what they’ve done to Byfuglien’s game.    Hopefully they can work the same magic with Myers.

I think it is great when both fan bases like the deal they got in a trade.  Buffalo got the better “now” pieces (even if we re-sign Stafford).  But we got rid of a problem/distraction in the dressing room.   Also, apparently there were rumblings that Lemieux wasn’t going to sign in Buffalo, so they are happy to be rid of a prospect who didn’t want to be there, just like we are happy to be rid of Kane.

Won’t know the full ramifications of this trade for a number of years when we see what the prospects turn into and what Kane is able to do in Buffalo (does he continue on the path he is on now or does he mature).    But for now, both fan bases seem to be happy, and that is a win / win.

Actually, it probably doesn’t affect Armia as much as I forgot he is already playing the minors.

For Junior players, the magic number is 9.  If they play 10 games in the NHL, they burn 1 year of their 3 year entry level contract.  So if you have an 18 / 19 year old player who you think will be sent back down to juniors, you don’t want to play him that 10th game in a season, or you burn one year of that cheap entry level deal.

The bigger one would be the 40th game.  If a player plays 40 NHL games, then he has accrued one year of service towards the seven years required to become an UFA.   We are far enough along that there aren’t 40 games left in the season.  What I don’t know is if playoffs count towards those 40.

Also, Armia is 21, and you become a UFA at either 7 years of NHL or at the age of 27.    He hasn't burnt any RFA years yet, but because of his age, it doesn't matter if we burn one now.  He will be a UFA at 27 regardless.

If he is ready, bring him up!

I really doubt we get rid of Myers.

Everyone wants to **** on him for being awful but let's face it. He's logging HEAVY minutes in a defensive black hole. Buffalo fully intends to be terrible. I'm sure once you put Myers in our system, he's going to look a lot more like what he did before Buffalo went in the shitter.
