  5. Agreed, and we really need to stop making this a thing. Football players have limited years to make their money. They should make as much as they possibly can.

  8. He is excellent and well ahead of the curve for his development. He has every throw in the book. I would be shocked if he is not in an NFL camp next year. That being said, he will have his highs and lows this year just like every other rookie starter does. He feasts on crap defenses but he has looked ordinary against stiffer defenses. To be expected though. The Lions will have to either break the bank to keep him, or he will undoubtedly test the NFL. At his age, and his toolbox, he could stick there for a few years and Tburg will go back to being a closet Lions fan. JK TB....sort of. I mean I can understand people thinking so since you have sent more compliments to the Lions in half a year than you have to the Bombers in 15 or so years on these forums. Part of that is because his early success wildly surpassed expectations for 8-9 games until the CFL came to the realization that as long as you keep him in the pocket he can't hit the broad side of a barn. Rider fans and the CFL press have been judging him on his first 8 starts where he was extremely successful playing essentially sandlot football. Like all one trick ponies he got figured out fast but the hype train had already left the station. For every QB that impresses early and builds a solid career (Collaros, BLM) there are QBs that have early success until glaring deficiencies are noticed in their game (Jon Jennings, Cody Faj). That's why I am really hesitant to call a QB a success or a bust until they have more than a full season under their belt. As unlikely as it seems it could even happen to Rourke in time although his arm strength and accuracy are top notch.

  9. If he's healthy you play him until 1st place is clinched. Every game could be the difference between 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Sure we are 9-0 right now and cruising to first, but until that is clinched mathematically you play all your horses when they are available. God forbid we have some misfortune with injuries, or illness in the 2nd half, we may need these 2 points for 1st. Never take anything for granted until it's signed, sealed, and delivered.

  10. Great news. I'd be okay resting him for another week plus the bye, what with a huge game coming up on the 25th.

  11. I feel nothing I don’t dislike him and I would take him back here any time. Like you said, he made a business decision and that’s fine.

  15. Exactly this. Also curious to see how BC does when the weather gets cold and they are playing outside.

  16. Which is a stupid metric that the media and fans fawn over and the coaches, players, and anyone who has a clue doesn't give a fig about. There is only one stat that matters at the end of any game, how many points surrendered and how many points scored. It is the bottom line. The rest is all white noise. If he's healthy let him play. My opinion is you don't hold a healthy, productive player out until you clinch 1st.

  17. I'm beginning to dislike Montreal again. Too bad for their team that their 1st game after Airhorn Gate is at IG Field. Spoiler: people are unable to reply to the below tweet.

  18. Lawler is likely not going to get re-signed anywhere near his current contract. He will almost certainly get multiple offers from teams across the league in free agency next year. Taking the money this year won't hurt his stock next year

  19. You can't blame ANY non-QB CFL player for taking a 300k payday. Its not like he left us for a similar offer. We were probably 70-80k less on any offer to him.

  20. for rourke admirers, and rourke skeptics "In the Lions’ 46-14 home thumping of the Edmonton Elks, Rourke completed 34 of 37 passes (91.9 percent) for 477 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions, and also rushed five times for 25 more yards and a sixth touchdown. Oh, and he did most of that by halftime But his 91.9 percent completion mark was the third-highest in CFL history (minimum 20 attempts), with the only two above that coming from Hall of Famer Ricky Ray in 2013 and 2008 (and Ray went 19/20 and 23/25 in those games respectively, so he threw far less passes than Rourke did). And his 477 passing yards did beat his own record (436, set in June) for most passing yards by a Canadian QB in a single game." https://thecomeback.com/international/cfl-qb-nathan-rourke-bc-lions-one-of-most-accurate-performances-ever.html think he might be a bit slender to be NFL starter. most of their qb, whatever height, are really solid. like wilson, kyler murray. short, but very thick. but maybe he'll get a shot. I think the guy is outstanding.

  21. Re: our roster It is made up of very good guys off the field. They are coached to play within the rules on the field; to play right up to the line. Playing physical. Not taking plays off. Making the other team pay to play. They aren't saints on the field. They are just coached really well.

  23. After 7 games played BC has given up 135 points. After 7 games the Bombers had given up 114 points. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

  28. If I remember correctly that particular pick-6 got into Jefferson's hands as a result of BA blitzing Reilly and disrupting his throw... It was less disrespect for the opponent and more trying to give the guy he felt deserved the stat-line his due. I don't doubt the fact the Bombers were absolutely shellacking BC played into it - He didn't need to worry about beating the other team by that point.

  30. the fact that all of this is just coming out now feels like The Emperor's New Clothes......the fog is lifting and all of a sudden it's "Hey wait a minute.......this guy's actually terrible!" Well, no ******* kidding...... career third stringer who can't hit a target past 10 yards? The hell you say.......

  31. One thing I've noticed about Rourke is that he is much stronger than he looks. Rarely gets clobbered. Smaller guys tend to bounce off of him.

  33. There is a difference between the edge Marino walks and the edge any coach would want you to walk. Football is a tough game, and I want 44 Jackson Jeffcoats, or Drew Desjarlais, on the field. Guys who play on the edge of dirtiness BUT don't cross that line intentionally. Guys like Marino or Lawrence cross that line with regularity and hurt their teams in the process. Every coach wants players who will beat their opponents to a pulp between the whistles, no coach wants d-bags that end up in the media and suspended because of it.

  34. Good Canadian kid, goes in the corners, tough kid who isn't afraid of standing in front of the net and taking the hits to get the deflection on the shot from the point, he should be able to handle the cold Canadian climate just fine....now if he was a Swede or some European kid, totally different story...

  35. So I think, just for clarity sake, what we're talking about in this thread is The Trinity wanting to bring in good people. It became public that they were watching how guys behaved around women at the office, how they treated support staff, and things like that. So along the way, before we won in 2019, there came a narrative on this board that we had too many choir boys (good choice of words, MG) and Osh needed to focus less on finding those nice guys, and allow a few more assholes. Now we can still debate this point, but as far as I'm concerned, we've brought in a lot of guys that are really genuinely nice people but also very good football players. We don't have guys that are necessarily assholes on or off the field. They play hard nosed between the whistles but rarely (if ever??) after. I'd consider Osh's plan a success....

  36. Much as I hated O' Shea when we played against them, I never saw him spit, kick or punch an opposing player nor did he resort to racist name-calling (although he questioned the sexual appetites of the mothers of some players). Other players soon learned to watch out for him, as he never missed an opportunity to lay a careless player out.

  38. It absolutely is. Dave Naylor really trying hard to hate. #1 in points allowed and have played more games than anyone. I do agree with him that we still aren’t even playing our best and will be even better come playoff time.

  40. Cgy scares me more in the fact they have solid coaching...better all around talent and depth...and are relatively disciplined and a lot of the guys have been there before...BLM doesn't scare me and he won't be reason they beat us.. Riders I truly think are done..and if Elks beat em next week...they really gonna be scrambling
