  13. Mack Herron #26. Anyone who saw him play won't ever forget him. He was probably the best "Little Man" running back who ever played the game. With his talent, he should have had the world by the tail. Instead he lived a tragic life after football where he was consumed by drugs & gang life in Chicago. Herron died in 2015 at age 67.

  15. If those are the only three issues holding up a deal, the CFL should be willing to work with the CFLPA. Those seem like fairly reasonable asks, IMO.

Currently reading an interesting book - Authoritarian Nightmare about the rise of Trump and why people follow him. Very interesting stuff, especially the part about the psychology of his followers. Co-authored by Manitoba's own Bob Altemeyer, an expert on authoritarianism. Canada is at risk too.

Curious to know if Charest stepped up and said the same thing when Trudeau was harassed last election and he wasn't running for PC leadership. He's right in condemning this and I'd like to see more people across the political spectrum call this out, I just hope he feels the same way when speaking out doesn't benefit him specifically by taking a shot at a rival.

Totally goes with the authoritarian-follower profile that the book describes. Looking to follow a strong leader, able to compartmentalize incompatible views, no critical thinking regarding their own views, angry and willing to accept attributions by those who cast themselves as a strong leader that will stick up for their interests (PP), willing to use violence to have their interests win out.

was reno 911 on duty? Officer Dangle was this you? "An on-duty Pinellas deputy drove his patrol vehicle over a 23-year-old woman lying on the sand at St. Pete Beach on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Brien turned right and ran over Robin Diffenderfer, who was lying in the sand, the Sheriff’s Office said. Diffenderfer was on her back, and the front, driver-side tire drove over her “right side and mid-to-upper back area,” the news release states." (on the plus side, the victim was a torontonian.) she is ok. Great holiday.

  32. I would argue Charles Roberts and Barry Sanders were better “little man” backs. 26 is surprisingly a weak number. Other than Herron, no real “big” names, and of all the players who exclusively wore this number, only one lasted more than three seasons with the club.

  35. Walking out of bargaining after dropping a take it or leave it offer and then releasing that offer on social media is pretty much as low as it gets RE bargaining in bad faith. While proposing partnerships with the PA Ambrosie is simultaneously and transparently trying to turn the public and perhaps the membership against the PA. Clearly the CFL led by Ambrosie has given up on bargaining.

  40. Here are some of the details of the league offer per 3Down. Italics are the deal parameters, underlined comments in brackets are mine: Here are the details: • $18.9 million in total guaranteed increases to the salary cap league-wide. (This equates to a one-time salary cap increase of $420,000 in year one and no other increase, or no increase until year 7 then a $2.1 million cap increase, or an $75,000 increase every year, or some other computation) • $5.94 million in guaranteed compensation paid for community outreach and promotional appearances league-wide. • An opportunity for twenty-five percent of all revenue growth over an agreed upon the threshold, to be added to the salary cap starting in 2023. • Clubs would be permitted to re-sign their veterans to partially guaranteed contracts, a first for the CFL. • A club would be allowed to choose one American player (non-quarterback), who has been in the league for at least four years or has played with the same team for at least three years, who would be considered a Nationalized American. • This one Nationalized American would count as a National on the roster. He would join 20 or 21 Canadians who also count as Nationals on the roster. • Each roster would have a minimum of seven National starters. This would include at least six Canadian players. The seventh starter could be either the Nationalized American or an additional Canadian. • The roster would also include three quarterbacks of any nationality, 19 Americans and up to two Global players. • A starting Canadian quarterback would count as a National (Canadian). • These roster changes would kick in as of 2023. • The minimum salary would increase to $70,000 in 2023 and $75,000 in 2027. • An updated Code of Conduct that applies to all members of the CFL Community, including fans, instead of just players. (Way to go, Speedflex. You pissed off the big dog and now Ambrosie is coming for us all!) 🤣 • A seat for your union on the Board of CFL Ventures, the commercial arm of the league, will allow us to work together on marketing our league and building our business.

  45. They didn't run Wing T. That's a tight, tight, TIGHT formation. The OL have no splits. The FB lines up a couple of inches behind the QB & is called "The Sniffer" ( I kid you not. That is what he was called). The backs are lined up on the hips of both TE's on the LOS half a yard behind the LOS. They are there to prevent any leakage of any defenders coming wide & tackling the ball carrier from behind. There is just one receiver on the LOS & he may be thrown at one or 2 times a game. It was used in college in the US & was successful in the 1930's & 40's. The misdirection works because defenders can't see the ball carrier. They also use a wedge where the OL all charge the centre of the DL & push forward. It's very powerful & physical offense. But totally outdated. Even in the 50's. There are usually four running backs. I won a provincial championship using that offense when I was a pee wee HC & my son was the qb. We couldn't be stopped. We KILLED everyone we played. Perfect offense for 11 & 12 year olds where the passing game is unrefined. But that was 2003. Today, you have phenoms who are 11 & can throw!! As well as performing reads & progressions. The game is changing. QB coaching is much, much better than it was when I coached. PS, I never called our fullback, "The Sniffer". I didn't want him to be embarrassed with the name. And Tyler wouldn't appreciate someone two inches behind him lining up right behind his ass. The QB was called "The Spinner" because every handoff is a reverse handoff. Even lead plays. Tyler had to learn to spin around fast & give the ball to his FB. The Bombers used a Split T offense. The OL were split on the LOS. It spread out the defense & created running lanes for the backs. Ken Ploen ran the Split T at Iowa & won a Rose Bowl in 1957. Bud Grant was going to run the Split T with the Bombers & he needed a qb who understood the offense & that is how Ploen came to Winnipeg.
