HAVING A BIG NOSE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT WEARING A MASK. FOR EXAMPLE, I STILL WEAR UNDERWEAR.

"Wood Mackenzie forecast demand for oil would start to fall from 2023 under this scenario and this decline would quickly accelerate thereafter, with year-on-year falls of around 2 million barrels a day. The report said oil prices could go into “terminal decline,” with international benchmark Brent crude falling to between $37 and $42 a barrel by 2030. B117 is the UK variant I believe....definitely dangerous for all ages. Not AS bad as Brazilian variant (P1) but still really bad...really contagious.

    Restaurant/food thread

So today I decided to treat my parents to Olive Garden, mostly as a cause for celebration because my dad will be getting his first COVID shot in about an hour from now (Hey I'm going to feel very relieved once everyone in this household (my parents and myself) have the vaccines and I won't have to worry about it, besides I had been wanted to get Olive Garden for awhile, I would have preferred to have gotten Tony Roma's but it's not in my area anymore) after we ate I asked my mother if there was anything she wanted on the 26th since that's when she'll get her first, I also extended the option of her getting it after her second dose (which she did choose because she hopes the day she gets her second shot will be on a weekend) and me? well mine won't come for awhile yet, probably not until June at this rate, even once my turn does come the thing is....I want to get something from a place from the US but that's not possible right now, maybe I'll get something from the Ikea end of town I'm actually tempted to get a cake that says "WE'RE VACCINATED!" just for kicks once we all have our big two

I guess they couldn't find any decent family sitcoms that debuted in the 90s to use (most of them were on TGIF anyway) I guess Dinosaurs would have been too complicated

Biden press secretary Jen Psaki is outstanding. I see some of her briefings on facebook. honest, very smart, very well informed, polite, but tough. worth a look if you have not seen her in action.

I'd rather the medical community be forthright with the public than not, regardless of the certainty; science is ever evolving, anyway. And let's be honest: skeptics and deniers are by and large lost causes.

I totally expect to continue to get Covid vaccine shots. Vaccine boosts will be needed. The only reason to hold this info back is the wacko anti-vaxxer talking heads who would rather die a slow painful Covid death than get a needle in their arm.

    Covid-19

There's also a story about people in Manitoba who were together during a pandemic. During the first lockdown, most people bought in and the restrictions worked. During second the lockdown, people began to realize: That travel was not allowed unless you were flying. That it was mostly big box retailers who were allowed to stay open. I mean, come on, Dollorama sells very few essentials. I could go on all day... This and other exceptions led to people seeking out loopholes for themselves. In the third lockdown - like it or not - there's going to be more people digging a hole in the floor of the cabin.

Oh, yeah, our gov'ts have been a case study in poor leadership and crisis management. We're 13 months into this and they still seemed perplexed by the simplest of human actions.

Unfortunately more restrictions are a coming it's the go to move for them, but lets not let the Governments off the hook for being woefully unprepared at the beginning of the pandemic, during the pandemic and now with the slow roll out of vaccines, thinking the people will do the right thing in terms of restriction is something only fools believe in.

Oh boy, 67 of the 135 cases are the UK variant- looks like it is soon the defacto dominant strain... hey look- we are following exactly in the footsteps of our neighbours... Maybe we should... oh I dont know- lock it down and impose stricter regulations? I swear we are letting that 2-4 week grace period of "lessons learned" from our neighbours go to complete waste...

not sure what Roussin has said for you guys, but our CMOH in AB has talked a lot about wearing masks outdoors now because they're discovering more and more variant transmission outdoors. It's very airborne and not just droplets, as with the original strain. I've taken to wearing a single reusable mask outdoors, and I double mask (with a disposable as base layer) when I go into a business (which is extremely limited for me...groceries once a week on Sundays)

That Cuba is an relatively isolated island helps, but their infant mortality, maternal morbidity and life expectancy is better than the USA. And they do not have access to the drugs, MRIs and so forth that Americans do.

this? https://abc7chicago.com/covid-chidlren-variant-coroanvirus-coronavirus-vaccine/10486843/ "Osterholm previously supported sending children back to school. He said the virus was not a major threat to children. Now, the situation has changed. "Please understand, this B.1.1.7 variant is a brand new ball game," Osterholm said on NBC's Meet the Press. "It infects kids very readily. Unlike previous strains of the virus, we didn't see children under 8th grade get infected often or they were not frequently very ill, they didn't transmit to the rest of the community."
