Whoa there. Are you insinuating that he is consciously calling the games he is because of being disgruntled? While I don’t stand behind OC when it comes to play calling, I don’t agree with your insinuation. That would be noticed and his future in the game would be in jeopardy. The man has integrity, he’s just a bit out of his element, dated, and mired in his own thinking. For all his understanding of the game, he lacks the ability to actually “see” the game.

  5. Look at his QB's, and look at his record, and his consistent results over a relatively long period, and now think about the rest of the market for head coaches. He's a commodity. It's not a black mark on the head coach to lose playoff games to better QB's, that's an organizational problem. Who do you think is tops among available coaches for head coaching positions? Rick Campbell? Following an open revolt in Ottawa? Tommy Condell? He was garbage until June Junes taught him Run and Shoot, no guarantee he's going to be able run a whole organization. Lapolice? A guy who hasn't developed a half decent QB or playmaker in 3 football lifetimes. Dinwiddie? Kavis Reed? Mark Washington? Reinebold? Mark Kilam? Not likely after the disaster Calgary's special teams have been this season. O'Shea is pretty clearly the top of the head coaching market if available.

"Concerned" Republican Case Study - Lindsay Graham: So, Lindsey Graham is alarmed and dismayed by Trump's cozying up to yet another dictator, and blindsiding the Kurds. Oh my. Well, during the 2016 campaign, Graham had called Trump a “nutjob” and a loser,” as well as a “race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot.” He predicted that if the GOP nominated him, “we will get destroyed … and we will deserve it.” However, after the election Graham, who was John McCain’s best friend in the Senate, underwent a miraculous transformation....morphing into Trump’s shinebox, lathering the Orange Ayatollah with praise and providing rationalizations for his idiotic actions, even as Trump has became increasingly belligerent and erratic, even by his own (low) standards. Despite Graham’s compulsive turd-polishing of the past couple of years, Trump didn’t even consult him before making the decision to abandon the Kurds. Graham, who had given up so much self-respect to prevent just this outcome, was not even in the room. He didn’t even get a text. What Graham seems incapable of grasping (along with other "senior Republicans on the Hill) ......is that Donald Trump doesn't care about them, the GOP, the American people, or for that matter, anything.....except compulsively feeding his ego and his wallet. Yet they still aid and abet Trump, out of wanting to remain in the Presidential power orbit, or simply fear of the MAGA voting block. So they endlessly circle the wagons, exhibiting new levels of gutlessness and hypocrisy. Funny thing, when you look at the bold sentence above - Graham had it right, the first time. The thing about Faustian bargains, is that the price is high and the rewards turn out to be illusory. They end badly. The reputation of many Republicans will be permanently soiled. And so they should. Postscript: https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/464811-graham-says-hell-invite-giuliani-to-testify-over-ukraine Lindsay still on the job.

  7. Lapo is likely gone. Hire Dinwiddie who is regarded as an up-and-comer for several year as the OC. He has been coaching now for 7 years, 5 of those with one of the best in Dickenson. We hired an unproven special teams coach to be head coach here 6 years ago. Now it's time for some fresh blood at the OC position. Sign Arbuckle as he already has a repoire with Dinwiddie and has displayed far more potential than Streveler up to this point. Sign Strev as well, as based on his performance up to this point, he will not command much on the open market (of course, this may change in the final 3 reg. season games and playoffs). Nichols can be shown the door. His performance has been wanting for the most part the past 2 years. When the running game is stopped he does not have the ability to lead this team to victory. We have seen this time and time again from him against the good teams ie. earlier this year in Hamilton, Last year's final against Calgary. Add in his shoulder injury and the likelihood he will decline further is that much greater in 2020. It's time to move on.

There comes a time when fans say to themselves...'enough us enough' and it starts getting louder and louder with each loss....You can never say that Mike O hasn't received enough time to build and coach a winner along with Walters....His record shows one....yeah... count em ....ONE lousy playoff win in 5 years....How could anyone expect that to continue with a different result...The record speaks for itself and unless O'Shea finds some magic somewhere and we end up in the Cup, I think his tenure here is over....Contract up....openings back east...time for a change of scenery for our hc I would say....Failing that expect a lot of season tix holders to walk away...Hope for the best and Mike finds an answer in these last games of the reg. season and the playoffs....if not the writing will become very clear on the wall

  11. Maybe but Streveler is a totally different kind of QB. He'd really have to develop cohesion with a group of receivers and the ability to make great pre-snap reads and quick throws. That's all run and shoot is, if we see this, we're throwing here and the receiver changes route accordingly. The receiver and QB need to read the same things. There's not a lot of RPO and someone like Harris would be totally wasted in a Run and Shoot. Also really focused on cutting down the reads and cutting the field in half for the QB, easy reads, easy throws. Can be really killed by a great zone defense, but it seems like teams have a lot of trouble scheming zone lately and prefer to just blitz wildly.

    The Environment Thread

Coal and bitumen: Why the Norwegian pension fund is ditching the oilsands KLP executive explains decision to sell $77M in shares of oilsands companies "Norway's largest pension fund is no stranger to Alberta's oilsands, having invested in several different oil producers over the last decade including Canadian and Norwegian-based companies. Now, those investments toward ramping up production from the bitumen-rich areas of northern Alberta have come to an end. KLP, which has assets of about $94 billion, has sold its stocks in oilsands companies. In its evaluation of the oilsands, the pension fund came to the conclusion that the oil production in the Fort McMurray region was akin to the coal industry in its harmful impacts to the environment. "Both are very high in emissions in producing the energy or fuel and we've decided to treat them similarly," said Jeanett Bergan, KLP's head of responsible investment during a phone interview with CBC News from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. "We are seeing a lot of signs in society that say 'This is not what the future will look like.'" https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/oilsands-norway-pension-fund-reduce-investments-alberta-1.5312066

The only way I turn on O'Shea is if he doesn't make a chance at OC in the offseason. Lapo is the single biggest thing holding this team back at this point. Yes I know a lot of people are on Streveler, but come on guys, he's had lots of drops and a bullshit offensive game plan like Lapo always does. The man got fired when he had Khari Jones, Milt Stegall, Charles Roberts and Mike Sellers to build an offense around for gods sake. What is our game plan now? Hope that Harris and Streveler can break multiple tackles and make multiple people miss on any given play? It's not a good plan. The guy has always been awful for this team. The Riders and Ticats the week before knew exactly what plays were coming.

Y'know, the first 3 quarters of the last Mtl game, Strev beat them with his arm. Not like he CAN'T do it. That's what's so frustrating. He's shown he can win as a passer. What changed?

Based on this, I would recommend a Toyota Corolla for your next car. Upon your retirement, you need to have your turn signal locked into the "on" position. It helps everyone identify you as a retiree. People will pass you and salute you and your retirement. The you're number one salute!

Doesn't sound like a troll to me. Just a fan asking a question. Anyway, to specifically answer Old Bomber Fan's question, I think Mike O'Shea would say that Streveler gave them the best chance to win. Just like he would say the same thing if Nichols was playing... that Matt would give them the best chance to win. That in O'Shea's mind the game was not over. To admit that by playing MacGuire would mean admitting defeat. That's why a qb switch was never made. Yeah, yeah, I know...

He had very few pass options to score in the redzone. He was trying to throw passes to score and we had 1 guy in end zone which makes it easy for the secondary to cheat. QFT. And the run plays werent even good. If we gave him some power toss, counter traps, shovels etc he would have won the game for us with ease. TBH, I would take him as a 3rd / 4th qb in the nfl in a heart beat. Hed be the guy to hold on kicks, run the goal line package, and be the scout team QB when prepping for mobile QBs. That alone, is enough to keep him employed. That said I dont think he will get the attention coming out of this year to get that role down south. I dont see him playing his way into a big contract right now, and that is a good thing for us. Itd be great if he was, but we want to keep him and keeping him fairly cheap at this age is pretty great long term. When given the limited time to throw the ball down field, hes shown he can do it with authority. He isnt ricky ray, but hes a pretty good passer for a running qb. And that is a tremendous value as a back up. especially at reasonable back up qb money.

  41. Think George Costanza working for the Yankees. Miller's activities are largely self directed with little to no accountability. He reports to the board of directors once a year. There is no team mandate for him to be involved in stadium management, concessions or other sports. His role is not football operation related other than ensuring adherence to organizational objectives and policy. Believe Dana Spiring is the governor and represents the Bombers in league matters.

  42. Harris was averaging 6.7 yds per carry. It was a grinding game The QB was struggling with reads and throwing into coverage. If I am the OC Harris would see the ball a whole lot more. He is also a player that gets better the more he sees the ball. If it's not the OC then why only 11 carries? I am not nor have ever claimed to be a football guru but that makes no sense to me. If Harris started pounding it I thimk things would have opened up for Streveler and in the air. 11 should have been 22. It's why we have him.

I don't hate Streveler but I have read your post who for a season & a half on this board & you were one of the most annoying cheerleaders I have ever seen. Big Chris this. Big Chris that. Afraid he'll go to the NFL. Matt Nichols sucks. When the Bombers lost it was always Nichols fault. When they won it was a team effort. No credit to Nichol from you ever. Now Big Chris is under the microscope & we are finding out about his shortcomings & that he's not ready & you don't like it. It is what it is. I have said that while Streveler is struggling, LaPo isn't helping him. I think he isn't getting the coaching he needs to develop. So, it's not all his fault. He needs help & he isn't getting it. I'm a Bomber fan. Why would I want him to fail? Especially now that he's all we've got. lack of good coaching is a huge issue offensively with this team. I want one more Grey Cup win at least in my lifetime. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever see it.

  46. Who hired Lapo? Who hired Hall? Why do people think that throwing the coordinators under the bus as a sacrifice to OSh works? He hired them and is loyal to them. He nearly got himself fired sticking with Drew Willy until he was likely forced to move on. So I wanted to do a little more digging into the record of our illustrious, country club running Head Coach. This is his record as Head Coach of the Bombers: 54 wins 51 losses regular season. 1 Labour day win, 5 losses on Labour day 4 wins, 2 losses in the Banjo Bowl 1 Playoff win, 3 losses Zero trips to the Grey Cup, and of course, zero championships. He's the 2nd longest serving head coach in Winnipeg, and people are afraid we would be, what? Lost without him? What has he delivered? The loyalty that he demonstrates, to a fault, is creating a "losing is ok" country club atmosphere. Now, of course I'm not in the room and this is my best guess but when the team has no consequences for bad play what are we to think? He's a 500 coach with 1 playoff win since 2014. He's not only replaceable, he's culpable. I could hire a Labrador retriever to run the team for a decade and while it would be "stable" it's the results that matter. Oh and can we stop pretending in a 9 team league that there are "cupboards" to be bare? What a stupid excuse. This isn't the NHL where it takes time to build a winner. Good god.

  47. Head Coach Ray Jauch couldn't get the Bombers into the Grey Cup despite having a great team & 3 second place finishes in a row with 10-6, 11-5 & 11-5 records in 1980, 81 & 82. He left. Within TWO SEASONS we won the 1984 Grey Cup with HC Cal Murphy. You don't sit still after 5 seasons. Something's gotta give.

  48. Will you please, please, please stop with this Trinity stuff like they're some kind of religious deities? O'Shea is just over .500 as a HC & he's won no championships. Only has won 1 playoff game. We're as close to winning a Grey cup as we were in 2016. O'Shea is replaceable. He's had his chance.
