The riders adjusted, lapo did not. Its his job to adjust and have wrinkles as well to counter the riders adjustments. Just like he should have in place to counter when teams crash down on the screen passes and short passes. And when play gap elimination against our run game. The answer was to roll out more, stretch the field laterally and that exposes the gap in the contain defense the riders were playing. Also running off tackle, counter trap, shovel pass, etc. The riders crashed down hard on the stand still screen passes (which suck any way) and ran them as if we had woli in blocking when we didnt. When a team is crashing down that hard, you can run pump and go on a fake screen for an easy big play. Some thing we havent done with plop at all to the best of my memory. Its his job to have wrinkles and counters to the other teams strategy, and to use the pieces he has to the best of their ability. He didnt do either or come close to it. Another year, another of the same threads. Was Hall ever fired btw? Threads like this are just yelling into a hurricane.

  4. Streveler struggled with reads/decisions, some bad turnovers Harris 11 carries in a grinding defensive, low scoring game No moving pocket, roll/sprint outs for Strev Keep running certain plays, that we just can't execute properly (ie hitch pass) Wideouts that don't scare anyone Hardrick playing on one leg, for near a month now. Could go on, but we have a number of problems on O, here.

Let me just ask one question.....when was the last time you can remember the Blue Bombers mentoring a QB into a starter? Frankly I have been following them for 65 years and the only one I can think of in that time was Kenny Ploen. We have traded for some good ones (Clements), signed a couple from the States (Brock, Jabobs, Hanzen) who were already established QB in their own right. But who have we brought along aka the Calgary Stampeders, Ottawa back in the day, Edmonton, BC (with Buono there), modern day Hamilton. Someone said and correctly QBs have to be on the "right" team to succeed. Is that the offensive scheme, the OL line, the way they are coached? I would say all of the above. Here in Winnipeg, we do not coach our QBs well and I would offer that Buck is not the person we need as a QB coach or OC. If he was we would not be witnessing what we are today. We do not groom our QBs to be successful should they be called upon simply because they don't get the reps other backups on other teams get during practice. Our mentality is next man up which is great but you can't be next man up in the QB position if you don't get the reps and the game plan isn't designed around your strengths. This is nothing new for LaPo; he has been like this his whole career. When we hired him away from TSN everyone was saying how great an analysis and offensive mind he was and he even went south to pick the brains of some NFL OCs. Does that not ring funny? The NFL game is nowhere close to ours; 4 downs verse 3 is a drastic change. And do leopards change their spots? We need a new OC, have needed one since LaPo signed. We need someone who can teach QBs the subtle nuances of the position and show them how to use their strengths while working on their weaknesses...then translate that to the OC. I was looking around at all the new faces in the coaching ranks this weekend and there are many as has been mentioned. Some I have never heard of but there they are coaching. Because we don't know their names does not mean they will not be good coaches. The DC for Sask totally out coached LaPo and how long has LaPo been around. Same with Montreal, and Hamilton. We need to look outside the box I'm afraid. We lost Kahari, Sask Dickensen and Ottawa Dickensen during this journey. It will be interesting to see what happens next. It is truly hard to believe that teams in this league except Winnipeg cannot rebuild a team within a few years never mind 29! Lots have what's our excuse?

Y'know, the first 3 quarters of the last Mtl game, Strev beat them with his arm. Not like he CAN'T do it. That's what's so frustrating. He's shown he can win as a passer. What changed?

  8. Yup, noticed that as well. Was going to say something then realized that if the Bombers are going to play like this, we deserve it. There are consequences to losing. This is one of them. Had we won, Ripper would have stayed under the bridge.

Correct. Niku played one exhibition and got hurt and conditioning to follow. Also does not Niku play RHD despite shooting left which is why Kuli was playing RHD cause he can switch sides. Biteto is playing for Kuli or Bealliu not Niku.

To win at poker you can't just stand pat unless it's hopeless and you chose to fold. If you have a good hand and want a better one, you toss your worst cards in hopes of getting better ones. It might work, it might not. But it's your only chance of winning it all, which is supposed to be the goal, not standing pat hoping everyone gets a worse hand than yours.

How many times does that question have to be asked? It's lame. Let Walters figure it out. That's his job. Not ours. You would prefer 9 years of mediocrity under O'Shea (with a new 3 year deal) with subpar Coordinators who can't adapt or are too stubborn to change or unable to adapt? I mean, look at our first DC.. Gary fricking Etcheverry. Our first OC? Marcel Bellefeuille. We replaced Etcheverry with Hall & Bellefeuille with LaPo. Hardly what I'd call improvements & so it goes under O'Shea. Things don't change until change is actually made. What has O'Shea accomplished as a HC to deserve to be around for 9 seasons?

I’m reserving any judgment on our QB situation until they get rid of the O.C. He is making a mockery of how to run an offence. Everybody talks how stubborn O’Shea is, but barely mention that LaPo thinks everything he does is right, and the way to a successful outcome is to stick with his game plans, even though it’s painfully obvious that what he plans does not work. Trying to turn Streveler into what LaPo wants in a QB as opposed to using his assets, is beyond asinine. Play into his strong points and let the opposition try and stop him. Instead we see exactly what opposing teams want...Streveler in the pocket. Turn him loose, let him have fun again. How frustrating it must be for the players on offence to know what they can do, as opposed to what they are being told to do, and knowing full well..it’s not working. We don’t use our weapons...that’s what sad.

I was wondering the same thing. My Head Coach has to do better than signing off on a “LaPolice Offence” simply because “he’s a good Coach”. Look at the game plan for goodness sakes. It looks to me like Saskatchewan sent it over. The ‘keep Streveler’ in the pocket theme’ was executed perfectly. In other words “stifle the two-pronged running game we had” that was so successful. My suggestion would have been to keep running it until it was stopped..with a few misdirections thrown in. Oh, and throw to receivers who are moving, you know like other teams do..with success. But really, what’s the point now? LaPolice won’t change unless a Head Coach shows up. (I’m talking to you Mikey)

Change for the sake of change is the quick route to failure. I'm absolutely not against change, but if it is not the correct change we'll just be starting from scratch and we've been there for most of the past 25 years. Lapolice is clearly bringing nothing to this organization. This is an obvious change that has very little risk, almost no risk that his replacement is worse, I guess we could be worse than Ottawa next year. We used to at least be good in the redzone, can't even manage that now. Objectively over a significant period that has been the only consistent strength of our O, Harris and scoring in the redzone even if they needed a lot of help from D and teams to get there. There has been no improvement over Lapo's time as OC, no matter how many new players, rookies or CFL veterans, are brought in. Lowest common denominator is the bald guy talking into the green light. Hall has taken lots of hits as Walters and Co have tried to jump start the O. We have spent far more $$$ on O, and handed Hall a random collection of inexperienced DB's and cheap vets. Our only money guys are D are Jefferson, Jeffcoat and Bighill. Two of those guys haven't even been a factor this season due to injury. Hall has done an amazing job to keep points off the board.

Not making a change because you are afraid of making a poor decision is a hallmark executive failure in business and sports. Hoping things are going to improve is NOT a plan...again in business and in sport. We have been sold the need for patience for a number of years....

To say that mathematics and probability will determine the ultimate goal of a championship here is at best....not even a stretch. If you believe that how many more years of this patience plan are you willing to endure? Part of the reason for Calgary’s level of stability is predicated on success....not hope and probability.

The interesting part about many workplace situations is that, given a basic level of competence, being liked...being personable and easy to get along with... will actually get you farther than being exceptionally talented and rubbing people the wrong way. Familiarity would also play into this after a while regardless of production. All the managing partners in this organization being chummy...and MOS's penchant for being loyal to guys he seems to like/that fit in...may just be proof of this concept.

Let's keep LaPo & Hall too while we're at it I mean, who are they gonna get? Besides, it's all about rewarding your friends even if they don't do the job they are hired to do. And don't say Tommy Condell who will be Head Coach somewhere else because we kept O'Shea.

So the slow drip of Rider arrogance in my personal and work life begins. Texts, hangouts from work google, sigh. Even when I have become numb to what the Bombers to do me as a fan, I still have to get it from these yokels. 4 championships in 100 years and these ass clowns think they're the , what, Steelers? Cowboys? I don't know what to think of all this, in the morning after. I tend to think that this season is basically done with because Streveler is on par with Jennings right now. It's beyond words to say what this season has done to me as a fan. I was so hopeful about the season I planned a road trip to Winnipeg for the Banjo Bowl, we started 5-0, and honestly I think like a lot of you, I thought this was finally the year. Hell, the Grey Cup was even in Calgary. So to say I'm crushed right now, is an understatement and I can probably assume a lot of you reading this are feeling the same way. With a nights rest and a clear head I start to think about next season. I honestly don't know what to do. One of the rebukes of regime change is "who would take over". Saskatchewan is doing just fine with a new head coach, so is Montreal. BC not so much, but even then I would wonder if we played again what would happen. BC looks great lately and may catch Edmonton for a cross over. Maybe. I don't know who's available, and I wish I knew who the next Huff was so I could tell the Bomber brass. I'm at my wits end with this club. I think the easiest thing for a lot of us would be just totally erase expectations and be passionless towards the results. I don't know how to be that kind of fan. When the Bombers win I feel great joy, and when they lose, especially against our rivals, it feels bad. Isn't that what sports is supposed to be? I wonder about that with our guys. Miller, MOS, Walters. Do they feel the sting that we do when the Bombers lose? Or do they shrug it off and go to a fancy little Osborne Village restaurant and toast their "success" as management and to the stability of their positions? I think what we need right now is management who hates to lose, not just love to win. I want someone running this team that when we lose the LDC the way we did this year to go into the locker room and kick over the garbage can. Call out the players for letting it happen and let them know it's unacceptable. Right now it seems like we're coddling our players like misbehaving toddlers. They take a **** in their pants when company is over and instead of spanking them or sending them to bed without supper, we hold them and tell them their special. That their bowel movement is special. It's only October 6th, the team is a lock for a playoff spot, yet we know it's next year season. It's like a zombie movie where someone you love has been bitten and they're still a person for a little while longer. How sad, and what a waste.

  47. Did you actually see some of his receptions? I can think of at least two where he was stationary when he caught the pass and a Rider defender was on top him right away. he had zero time to head up field much less break a tackle. I realize it’s your opinion but it’s clearly uninformed and biased.

  48. Disagree. We have at least good receivers who are hamstrung by a quarterback who is unable, unwilling or forbidden to use his strengths in a RPO game plan. We do not know if this is all on Streveler or LaPolice or both. Either way, we're boned this year once again.
