Well, based on the number of times the federal NDP have held power, I'd say the system works!

That's why they are investigating.... They know he committed crimes on the campaign, there is a pile of evidence he colluded with a foreign power to win an election, why is that not the governments job to investigate it? Guy is a criminal plain and simple and he sits in the presidents office. Investigate the hell out of him and see if the president is in fact compromised by foreign powers. Seems the exact type of thing that the other branches of government should be investigating.

  5. Thought a thread with good news would be a good idea. In December, Associate Minister for the Environment, Eugenie Sage, confirmed the plastic bag phase out for retailers. From July 1, 2019, retailers will be prohibited from selling or giving away single-use plastic shopping bags. As of 2018, the nation uses approximately 1.6 billion single-use plastic bags each year. https://www.theplanetarypress.com/2019/01/new-zealand-plastic-bag-phase-out-confirmed/

  8. You'd have to be incredibly partisan to think this is harassment. Thats simply repeating Trump's nonsensical talking points. The reason President's release their tax returns is, in part, to show they are not beholden to any person or corporation. There is plenty of evidence and speculation to wonder about Trump. You're basically saying, sure if he was a crook before he became President, its okay. Thats absurd. If Congress was investigating Clinton you'd be all for it. That's the real partisan politics. What Congress is doing now is exactly their job. And its why they have the power to do it.

  14. one demonstration of how the LEAP movement is tearing the NDP apart was demonstrated to me in spades when I was watching their leadership convention. Daniel Blaikie got up and did an impassioned speech about how the NDP stands up for labour and he was talking about the pride he felt touring aerospace industries in Winnipeg and all of the unionized staff etc etc. A good speech, I thought. Young Blaikie sat down, and the next up to the mike was some young female LEAP'er from Quebec, who blasted Blaikie for supporting "evil" aerospace industries, and how all of those companies should be put out of business to save the world from global warming. Young Blaikie's shoulders just slumped. A party that divided, just can't stand.

    The Star Trek Thread!

I'm liking this season a lot better myself. Didn't like the Klingons in Season 1 with their new look & still don't now. So, seeing less of them suits me just fine. I'm also liking the calm demeanor of Captain Pike through all the chaos. Not a big fan of the Sylvia Tilley character as she is just getting more annoying this season.

Trump's most dangerous move by far, is transferring nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia. "The Saudis have so far refused to rule out their right to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons" This is completely nuts.

  23. A couple of good ones. I recently watched L&O:SVU's early seasons and really liked her. I will say this, you cant really judge the show on that first season. I liked the first season but it was a backstage mess. Fuller really wanted to change everything and put his own twist on Star Trek. By the time he was ousted, the show was already behind schedule and over budget so they pushed forward with a creative team that had to make the best of a show they didnt create. In Season 2, they try pretty hard to overcome some of that and get the show back on track to being a more reasonable TOS prequel. As I recall, Fuller's original idea (and, I assume, the logic behind the spore drive) was to make the show a sort of anthology where every season would see the Discovery warp to a new time period. I dont let the modern look of the show bother me so much although some flares they didnt need like holo-communicators bug me a bit (they address them in the second season). But two things really bugged me: 1) the critical plot point of Michael's betrayal of Phillipa & 2) how the show is shot, especially the space scenes. On point 1, this one incident drives the plot but it was not nearly as dramatic as characters seem to refer it. They literally blame Michael for the war when her actions had nothing to do with it. And the idea of her committing treason was grossly over-blown too. It struck me as....Fuller had an idea and the incoming creative team didnt want to run with that thread but it was too important to drop completely. Just always bugged me. On 2, the super dark, blue haze space shots and "unnatural" look of the ships bugged me a bit. But they largely correct this in Season 2 with better shot space scenes and no more blue haze.

  24. I just finished season 1 of Discovery. I'm enjoying it but it feels really different. Spore drive technology reminds me of the Force (both midichlorian and non-midichlorian variants).

  25. Trump should be held responsible from the first day he announced he would run for the Republican nomination again this is a guy who wanted to know if he could pardon himself on top of claiming that his tax returns were being audited which is false, add that his son in law wanted to set up a back channel to the Russians on top of all the mistakes and omissions he made on his sf-86 security form. If in the past, Trump has committed bank, tax or insurance fraud........no particular reason why the State of New York, should not investigate. We like to think that these laws, on either side of the border, apply to everyone. If Trump has committed any felonies as President - it certainly is the business of the Congress, who are tasked under the Constitution, to provide oversight.

  35. So much assumption and inference in this post... Firstly, where did Ambrosie say that we are "second rate" or that we somehow need to compete with the NFL? Sure compared to the NFL we are a much smaller league and our salary and expense structure reflects that. But we're not here to compete with the NFL. We're here to be the CFL. We offer Americans a chance to play pro ball, in our league. If they don't want to come here, no worries, we'll find someone else, which seems to be a part of what Ambrosie is doing in these trips. Secondly, what makes you think that this is the only thing he's working on? Sure he doesn't have huge numbers of staff, but that doesn't mean that multiple irons might not be in the fire. He knows about the player agreement negotiations and the markets that are struggling. There are always issues like negotiations and markets that are struggling. The agreement will get hammered out, as those things always do, but he doesn't have magic at his disposal to fix struggling teams, and for the most part that's not his job anyway. Those teams have owners. Maybe those owners should be dealing more directly with that. Or maybe those "hundreds of thousands of fans" that one of our Argo fanboys likes to talk about need to get off their collective asses and maybe, ya know, actually be a fan and go to a game? Don't see Ambrosie having too much to do with that. Lastly, what he's doing is formalizing or exploring relationships with Mexican and European leagues. That's completely different. The odd guy wandering to Europe or Mexico to play ball doesn't mean much of anything. Ambrosie exploring new markets and opportunities in Mexico and Europe is not at all the same thing. Not even close.

  36. There's another factor here- the more eyeballs watching CFL football, the more that advertisers are willing to pay. Multi-national corporations like Coca Cola, Adidas etc are willing to fork out big bucks to reach international audiences. Big foreign ratings are not going to come immediately, but its always wise to build for the future.

  39. These leagues are looking for a partner to grow the game. The commissioner said on Friday night that when he started talking to these leagues that they were really surprised that he asked them how the CFL could help them grow and develop. The NFL had dictated what the relationship was going to be with them to benefit of only the NFL.

  40. My opinion on CFL 2.0. We are all here, I would assume because we think that the CFL is the most exciting brand of football right? Why would we not want for people in Mexico, Austria, German, France, Finland, ect, to think CFL when they think football. Share what we love with millions more people seems like a no brainer.

  41. You should read the article.. “We talk to the PA quite regularly. We can walk and chew gum. People say, ‘Randy, why aren’t you staying home and focusing on fixing Toronto?’ I say, ‘This is fixing Toronto.’ We are only going to get people who are not CFL fans to be CFL fans in a world of big sports if we change the fundamental profile of who we are. We have to re-cast ourselves in a different way. We can’t be this small, loveable Canadian Football League. We have to think bigger. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome “My job is not to sit at my desk waiting for the phone to ring. My job is to create opportunities for this league to be more successful.” “There are five million football fans in France and now 100 kids playing football in CGEP in Quebec, with another eight players from Europe playing U football in the province. There are three times the number of kids playing tackle football in Mexico right now than currently registered in Canada. Across Europe there are 32 leagues playing American football in 30 countries. The CFL, hoping to capitalize on some of that, expects to announce a deal with a Mexican broadcaster soon – and possibly some European agreements, too – and is hoping to play at least one international game per season.”

  42. 👁‍🗨 You have to admire Randy Ambrosie for all the effort he’s putting into his job. Never have I seen a more visible Commissioner who is putting the CFL first and foremost in the public’s eyes. You may not agree with some of his ideas, but it’s way better than in the past where the Commish would come out on Groundhog Day, then disappear again for 6 weeks.
