    Bomber News: 2019 Off Season

I mean ... really? You think this is salary cap related? He's most certainly taking a pay cut to do this. He's just planning for a career that has a longer term outlook than football and props to him for it.

  3. Look at it this way ... way better alternative than him leaving us to sign with a rival. And while not ideal, Goossen to Couture is the kind of cap savings that ought to free up some money to either certainly improve Chungh's offer, sign a name receiver or possibly even both.

  4. I suspect that this was what would be called a prophylactic or preventative measure on Goossen's part. If he really wants to be a police officer and buggers up a knee, elbow back or shoulder, that career is no longer an option. Sound logic, in my eyes. Better to jump before you are pushed. That way you can choose your landing spot.

  5. first reaction was shock and disappointment... but not surprisingly, Mr Goossen leaves with class and plans to move on to a very respectable career... I can't help but feel good for him to move on while still healthy and able to pursue life after football... Good luck to Mattais in his future...

  6. It’s just like last year Neufeld comes in and they don’t skip a beat. Plus have two first round picks can use one and development cycle begins again.

  7. the key is that the Bombers have known about this for awhile and have been planning for it. We'll be just fine...

  8. Right, but three more years of football could completely make being a police officer unattainable physically. It's not about the next three years but the next thirty.

  9. He can be a cop for another 20 years make good money and retire with a great pension, his football career maybe had another 5 years aches pain maybe even a serious injury, he made the best choice in life for himself and his future.

  10. If we were to have a circumstance where we were to lose Goossen, then this is the preferred scenario. A win for Goossen, and while a blow for the Bombers, certainly not a travesty. And to show the class to have informed the Bombers beforehand speaks volumes. (are you paying attention mr Durant?)

  11. well...we should have no reason making Chungh an offer he can't refuse now you would think...A line with Bryant and Hardrick with a combo of Chungh..Neuf..Gray and Couture is still pretty damn good

  12. I say we start a riders board! And then let it be one bad ass free for all. And then use the advertising revenue to buy a badass sign right outside of Mosaic. And then troll the **** out of all of Saskatchewan. Sorry, but I'm cruel.

  15. @DarrinBauming FollowingFollowing @DarrinBauming More Matthias Goossen will retire from pro football to pursue a career in police work back in his home province of British Columbia. There was a reason the #Bombers had a priority in securing Michael Couture last week prior to free agency opening. He’s likely the new starting centre.

100%. I haven't been to a single Moose game since they've been back but I've driven out to Brandon to watch the Wheaties play a few times. I'll probably still take the occasional trip out there but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing games here.

It takes a brave man to loudly proclaim his ignorance of the topic of weather vs. climate. It's morons like that are the reason they stopped calling it global warming in the first place and went with climate change. Try and avoid over taxing small minds.

Love the WHL. When I used to live in Regina would go to 5-10 games a year also would go see a game or two in Moose Jaw.

  21. There will inevitably some discombooberation in the O-line, but I think we have the bodies to compensate. He is not a direct replacement, but Gray will be starting the season and that will give us flexibility. Thank you Matthias for all you brought to the team and us fans, and we know that there comes a time to put our toys away.

  23. *Usually* police agencies do have an age limit for when recruits can join and I don't know the specifics for Goossen but with Surrey getting their own police force in the next year or so this may be his only chance at getting on. In the short term he'll make less money, but he'll be pulling in 6 figures within a year or two and then can make that for the next 30 years. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with salary cap because if he were to hit the open market I think many teams including BC would of thrown good money at him.

  24. Sucks to loss Goossen but best of luck to him in his future endeavours.

  25. That’s exactly right and speaks to how this team has been managed. There’s a very high likelihood that we will be dressing 6 OL who won’t be strangers, even if they haven’t been starters yet.

  26. Kind of reminds me when Neil McKingley retired to become a firefighter, of course he wasn't as important to the Bombers as Goossen, this is a big loss no doubt but if the Bombers can re sign Chungh the line should be in good shape.

    Upcoming Movies

"A Star is Born" sure has lost all of its momentum in the Oscar race. It was the clear-cut favorite when it came out, now it will be hard pressed to win anything other than Best Song. And I'll say now if "Black Panther" wins Best Picture then the Academy's attempt to be more inclusive will have severely overreached.

Yeah, if I was living anywhere near the city, I'd get Dub seasons in a HEARTBEAT to go along with Bombers seasons...no question. It's phenomenal hockey...and the thought of Wpg getting a Mem Cup at some point....hooooo....that's good stuff.

I honestly think the Dub will do fine in Winnipeg...I think this is more of a blow to the Moose. I know I personally would rather watch Dub than A....

  44. I think Randle’s money (or at least the difference in paying him and a younger DB) is switching sides, from D to O. Can’t defend the pass anyway with the PI rules, why spend on it?

  45. Surprised that it's a retirement, I did think he was going home to play in BC, not to pursue another career. Kind of assumed he would've told the Bombers about his intentions to not return but it really should be stated that it makes him a big time class act that he did so. He put his house up for sale shortly after the season ended, which is why I had an inkling he wouldn't be back.
