  1. Ted Wyman‏ @Ted_Wyman 3m3 minutes ago From what I'm hearing at #CFL meetings it doesn't sound as of now like the BC Lions are going to be in on LB Adam Bighill if he gets to free agency, which certainly makes it more likely that he will stay with #Bombers.

You are really conflating way too many issues into this discussion to even know where to start, and there are assumptions in your original post that are not even true. Here are a few that I had time to find your facts articles. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/winnipeg-jets-paul-stastny-st-louis-blues-1.4552179 Just because they didn't get him in 2014 doesn't mean they didn't bid or try. Jets were a horrible unattractive team in 2014. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/qa-jets-owner-mark-chipman-team-budget-patience-cheveldayoff/ Regardless of ranking in spending or percentage of the cap, the last couple of years, the Jets have been within a "good" player of spending to the cap, which to me totally makes sense given where their young stars are. Tieing up money to spend to the cap you are going to need to sign young players coming off their ELC's is just stupid. Suppose the proof will be in the pudding over the next few years, but I expect the Jets will be spending very close to the cap. Probably would be a better discussion to separate the topics of the Jets being a "budget" team vs. trading Laine.

Jericho is 50. Remember Angle in TNA? Barely moved the needle. If It was 15 years ago maybe... Hope AEW works out.. But i already see huge issues for them and the main one being im not sure if the niche market is big enough even with TV deal. The biggest problem tho is the fickle fans they are catering 2 who hate wwe but will pop for ex wwe guys. Lets be honest..50 yr old pT jericho isnt a draw and neither is Neville and despite what some think... Omega is not well known in the states at all. What makes him better than AJ Styles? Im just saying.. Catering to the roh fanbase isnt gonna get the job done. Right now.. Its a bunch of talk but how are u gonna convince casual fans to tune in when they see stardust neville 50 yr old Jericho and a bunch of lets be honest... Midgets. I dont see the diff between AEW or roh or impact or mlw for that matter. That is THE competition for them.. Its not WWE.. Its the indy feds i mentioned.. Mlw impact even roh and to a lesser extent NJPW which are all established brands who dont draw **** in reality in the states 60000 watching eh? Cool.. Thats grear but to compete with the E you gonna need 2 million more tuning in.. Where are those 2 million cuz they aint watching roh mlw impact or Japan Honestly the roster is quite underwhelming at the moment... Its truly ROH but with some hype. ROH isnt a huge draw. Not sure the money or fans are there for this to be more than just a glorified indy fed owned by billionaires. All in was special cuz it was funded by the boys... They are no longer All in.. Its not double or nothing.. Its playing with someone elses money. Huge diverse crowd tho of maybe 3500 ppl.... There were a few fat white guys a few skinny white guys and like 6 women..

4 hours to go until Trump's speech and it's being reported that he still isn't sure if he's going to declare a national emergency to get around the Congressional stalemate. If his intention was to make a strong move to kneecap the Democrats, this is not it. Seems that he (more likely his advisors) recognize the legal pitfalls of such a move. So right now, expect a more "persuasive" argument to sway public opinion in his favour that the wall is necessary to put the heat back on the Dems, rather than the nuclear option of using his absolute power to bypass them. For the viewing public tuning in to see what crazy things the Don will say, the downside is that this is an Oval Office speech and not a town rally. It is hard to imagine him going off script when the only audience is a camera and no living people in his sightlines to feed his ego, and I'm sure Steven Miller has got tight reins on that script and its message. Not that I don't expect there to be majorly inflammatory rhetoric in it - Miller is by all accounts a reprehensible human being (never met the man, to be as fair as possible) and not so secretly racist, but he is savvy in ways Donald is not, so he can craft a devious message and let his puppet parrot the lines. The Democrats have already booked time for a rebuttal from Schumer and Pelosi right after. Won't be much time to script a response cribbing from Trump's comments, but I don't think that should be their focus. They have so many targets to hit here, the question is: will they do it right? History suggests Democrats don't, because they want to appeal to the humanity in Americans, rather than get dirty and call out the liars and hypocrites for fear of retaliation. IMO, their talking points need to be the following, repeated ad nauseum to frame the counter-attack properly: 1. Trump has lied from the beginning. "Mexico will pay for the wall!" Now, knowing that it was a phony and impossible promise from the beginning, he wants the American taxpayer to pay for his lies, and is willing to hold them hostage (Gov't shutdown putting 800,000 out of work and pay) to get his way, and for months or years, just to get his way. This President will destroy the average American he swore an oath on the Constitution to protect, by putting his own needs ahead of yours as Americans. 2. "I own the shutdown". We all saw these words from his mouth. He has repeated them. Not only does he own it, he is PROUD of it. Proud of putting hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work for his own vanity project, and he will do so for as long as he wants - months to years. This is the man who would protect the average Joe from big Government? 3. Crisis at the border: another LIE. Only 4 terror suspect at the southern border, not 6,000. Vast majority of influx of drugs, terror watch list suspects, and crime comes through legal ports of entry like sea, or moreso, air. And what has the President done to protect our airports. Shutdown the Government, leading to zero pay for TSA agents who have now stopped showing up. Our airports are now less secure, all because of the president. HE has caused the greatest threat to our safety now. [it may be gilding the lily to say "Remember the last time our airspace was compromised by those 19 Saudi hijackers - a country our President still upholds as a vital and important economic trade partner (so we can see whose economic interest he DOES care about, if not 800,000 Americans) despite knowing of the implication of that country's Crown prince in the coldblooded murder of an American citizen and journalist" - that statement could generate a lot of heat, but if you are going to get in a street fight, you have to fight to hurt, I say]. 4. Democrats WANT to fix this problem. Border security is important, which is why we voted to pass 1.6 billion in funding in our last bill, to spend on NECESSARY improvements. The Republicans (McConnell) now refuse to bring that bill to the Senate for a vote. Funny though, they passed the exact same bill two weeks ago 100-0 before the President vetoed it. Now they have fallen in line with the President's position to hold the country hostage until he gets his way. Any soft sell that makes this about being a good country and HELPING in a Humanitarian crisis just washes over Trump's misdeeds and plays into his hands ("see, the Dems agree that this is a crisis"). Experience makes me worry that the Democrats will choose this touchy feely route and lose the message battle.

  18. Thanks again for digging through the archives for very useful information. Regarding the changing of stats based on current conventions - I know Elfrid Payton always felt gypped (mildly) about his sack totals because he ended up with 154 to Covington's 157, and the rules changed during Payton's career so that if a QB fumbled when he was hit, they would only record the forced fumble but not a sack, like they did previously. Payton lost a few sacks because he was so good at stripping the ball from the QB when he tackled them. If the QBs were better at protecting the ball, or if the rule was consistent either way, Payton would have the all-time record (either he would have registered more sacks if sack and forced fumble could both happen on the same play, or if Covington lost sacks due to forced fumbles on his plays that counted as both).

Don't get me wrong..I'm all for keeping Laine. He's a one trick pony, but it's a hell of a trick. Thing is, his agent can't be asking for the moon this off-season. He hasn't come close to earning that Matthews/McJesus money yet...

  25. Bob Orci wrote a script for Trek 3 that was rejected and he was eventually fired but speculation is that he'd have "fixed" the timeline. The rumored storyline for Trek 4 involves George Kirk so possibly the same thing. I would have been fine with that. But for the most part, Bad Robot's time running Trek was a disaster.

I think the goal was for Trump to sound sincere and Presidential. It might have been his best address. He still sounded half asleep and not remotely sincere. Everyone reads off teleprompters but rarely do Presidents sound like their reading words they have never seen before or believe in. Trump always sounds that way when he's reading. If Trump really felt like the US needed protection from immigrants who commit violent crimes to the extent he wants a wall, why does he care so little when American's commit crimes with guns? How many generations back to the vast majority of us have to go to be immigrants? Trump? ONE. Him as his followers are NOT anti-immigrant. Their anti-brown people. They dont care how many white people come in.

Its a good roster and still being formed. And if they sign Kenny, they're the promotion with the best wrestler and biggest wrestling star in the world. Someone said Jericho was like Hogan going to WCW. In some ways (Hogan was a bigger star) but the combination of Jericho & Kenny....thats huge. When you walk into a boardroom of a major network and they ask who you are and who your talent is, those executives might know nothing about wrestling. But they DO know Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega. It opens every door.

I am unaware of any of those leagues having North American TV deals that many people can access? As for the midgets comments.. I seem to remember guys like Shawn Micheals, Ric Flair and Bret Hart getting over despite being average heights? If AEW gets a good tv deal and if they have good angles / story lines and something that can draw adults to watching then I don't see why it can't do well? If they only focus on wrestling then yes I agree it won't draw any casuals over.

How could the Jets hope to keep Laine, Roslovic, Connor, Morrissey, Trouba, etc if they spent right up to the limit? Also, there are bonuses that will be due on the ELCs. You spend up to the cap when you absolutely have to but you need room in order to sign the younger guys and to make trades to help the club. As you can see, the Jets have been adding more and more salaries each year as the draft-and-develop model comes to fruition.

  39. Going to the conference final was a windfall for True North. All their business interests are tied to the Jets doing well. If they are a cap team that misses the window and begins to suck, sure, we can talk about trading guys away due to money and rebuilding. But every team would feel the same way in that scenario. Chipman did manage expectations in year one when he said the Jets would NOT be a cap team unless they had a chance of winning the cup. They're basically a cap team now. And will be for the foreseeable future. If they trade Laine it wont be because they cant afford him. It might be because they feel his market value isnt worth what he brings. But if they really want to keep him, they will keep him.

    1 point
  43. yes he had the most inside the 10 this year...I actually as well think this was one of his better punting years..he also started to tinker with his method/drops and the knuckling, curving ball he used often this year which made the returner have to cross the field to get it caused teams fits..also he kicked a ball that was difficult for returners to catch cleanly...later in the year our punt return coverage took a bit of a dip as we really missed Jones, Renaud..Gauthier at times and other key coverage guys who were hurt
