  4. I'd say it's a positive that Bighill and his family are still hanging around Wpg., if they were desperate to get back home to BC they could have abandoned Wpg. multi-weeks ago.

    Bomber News: 2019 Off Season

Well, he was at Uptown Alley with his fam the other day. I'm not sure where that fits into TBurgs scale of likelihood of returning but it's certainly a positive. I assume if we see him at with Walters at a Jets game, that means it's a done deal? If it's a Moose game, they're not that serious? I'm not sure how the scale works. We don't have the Raptor measuring stick here.

  6. Bighill's family was here with him all season, and his kids have no school ties yet, or the next 2 years, so who is to say things won't be exactly the same again? Just because a player's extended family is somewhere, doesn't mean that is the only place they will choose to play. The fact that they are all still here says a lot as well...expect to hear a signing at the latest by mid january

  7. Bighill sure promoting Winnipeg on twitter. Sounds like hes here for a bit. Was just at Monster Jam. U save lots of money playing here compared to overpriced House poor BC.

  8. As we settle in for the long off-season, and add another year to the futility chart for no Grey Cup championship, I thought a little winter project may keep things interesting. So I propose to create "the definitive" list of the all-time greatest Blue Bombers by position, as voted on by MBB members, covering all 89 years of this team's existence. Each week from now through April, we will focus on one position and decide who are the best all-time Bombers at that spot, completing the whole team as we enter training camp for 2019. The team will be position-specific, so rather than, for example, picking 3 middle linebackers in the "linebacker" spot, I will focus one week on middle/inside linebackers and one week on outside linebackers. Same will go for slotback/wide receiver rather than just "receiver", safety/halfback/cornerback vs. "defensive back", and fullback and tailback vs. "running back". Also, where a player may have excelled in 2 areas, you are only to judge their merit for the position that they are nominated for that week (ex. Charlie Roberts could show up both as a running back or special teams returner, but when voting for him as a returner, do NOT consider his contributions as a running back in your overall estimation of him, and vice versa. Same would go for Rod Hill - ignore his special teams ability to block punts when considering his abilities as a defensive back, and if a kicker did both punting and placekicking, analyze each facet separately rather than their overall impact). Because of changing offensive and defensive philosophies, I am going to expand the team in a couple of ways. On defence, rather than deciding between a 3-4 or a 4-3 defence, I will pick 2 inside/middle linebackers and two outside linebackers, and also two rush end/linemen and two interior linemen/nose tackles. To balance this on offence, there will be a tailback, fullback, slotback and wide receiver position, but also a #5 receiver position to account for the newer 5-1 offensive set. The defence will be chosen first, then special teams, then offence, and finally coach and GM. I will try to dig into the archives so as not to omit any candidates, but I may miss a few, so send in a nomination either as a response to this message or as a PM to me, and I will include that person on the list and try to highlight their accomplishments for your consideration .Then everybody votes and the top vote getter (or two in some cases) will be on the team. We will start with the cornerback position. You can nominate any cornerback from any era from today up until this Friday, and I will compile the list. On this Friday (December 7) I will post the nominees for people to vote on, and the following Friday (December 14th) the voting will close, with the top 2 vote getters being selected. Also this Friday (the 7th) I will open the nominations for defensive halfback, and that list of candidates will be open for voting on the 14th, and so on. The order will be: Cornerbacks (2), Defensive Halfbacks (2), Safety (1), Outside Linebackers (2), Middle/Inside Linebackers (2), Defensive Ends (2), Defensive Tackles (2) Place kicker (1), Punter (1), Returner (both punt and kick) (1), Special Teamer (includes long snapper, special teams tackler, or punt block specialist) (1) Centre (1), Offensive Guards (2), Offensive Tackles (2), Wide Receivers (2), Slotbacks (2), 5th receiver (#3 vote getter in Wide Receiver vs. #3 vote getter at Slotback in a special head-to-head runoff vote), Fullback (1), Tailback/Running Back (1), Quarterback (1) Coach (1), GM (1) Hopefully this piques people's interest, and gets us through the snowy season. So off the top of my head for Cornerback nominees, I would suggest, in alpahabetical order: Roy Bennett, Juran Bolden, Less Browne, Rod Hill, Jovon Johnson, Reggie Pierson, David Shaw (believe he played corner), **** Thornton. Not on this list because I THINK they played halfback were Ken Hailey, James Jefferson and Ken Ploen, but I stand to be corrected. I cannot think of anyone else who jumps out at me, but I am certain that I have forgotten someone (and please be mindful of the distinction of cornerback vs. halfback - if I have made an error let me know!). Keep sending in suggestions for nominations and I will create the voting list on Friday. I promise future postings on this thread will be shorter.

  10. Back at the old stadium in the Chairman's lounge, I once saw Bob Cameron chug a full beer, get up on the table and plank (I think thats what the kids called it), and hold himself up there for almost a minute. This wasn't more than 6-7 years ago, so he would have been in his late 50's. That was legendary stuff! Then he went and crushed another beer with Walby!

  11. you can call it pathetic all you want... you're the one making excuses for Nichols play and claiming that it wasn't mediocre, with damn near a full season of play that indicates otherwise. And to claim that I have a dislike for the player... that's fine. Not totally accurate, as I do like the guy and think he's a good person. All I'm really trying to get across is that I don't feel this is the guy that's going to get us a Grey Cup. That said.... the Bomber brass clearly isn't going to make a change between now and training camp, so I'm just going to stop beating this dead horse. We're stuck with Nichols, and unless Streveler comes to training camp and absolutely steals the starting position, Nichols will be "the guy" to start the 2019 season. Do I like it? No. Does my opinion matter? No. We'll just have to see how things go next season to see who's ultimately correct in the assessment of whether Nichols is an elite QB or not.

  13. The Bombers reaped 3 all-star seasons out of Loffler's rookie contract and he didn't make a peep about that inequity, I think it's fair he be allowed to earn a good wage more in line with his contributions on his next contract. Just because you have no understanding of his assignments doesn't mean he hasn't been executing them properly.

  17. That was kind of my first reaction too... I felt bad but also thought he wasn’t deserving... as I’ve said before, I think loffler is a good player and someone I’d like to keep... I don’t see him as irreplaceable...

  18. How the heck does Loffler keep being named an all star? Every year since he's been in the league yet he disappeared for stretches this season.

You're speculating based on pure assumption and an obvious emotional bias. "Streveler starting to pick up some steam" (No, he wasn't. He was downright bad in that week 3 loss to the Ti-Cats) "...him telling the medical staff that he's ready to go, when he probably truly wasn't." (You know nothing, so don't make claims you can't substantiate) "I'm guessing Nichols wanted those easy W's next to his name and rushed back." (What nonsense) "Streveler would have picked up wins in those games as well, and he knew it. Probably would have put up better numbers too!" (More rampant speculation based on nothing more than your dislike of a player) I know it's fun for you to dump on #15 to your heart's content and blame him and only him for that WSF loss, but if you're going to "make a point" while doing so, at least be rational and objective about it. The fact is you made no point and you trumped absolutely nothing. And I didn't theorize anything, either. Do you know what a theory even is? It's like you didn't even my post and just blurted out a bunch of triggered, immature gibberish. Go back and read what I actually posted. I'd also suggest consulting a dictionary before you attempt to deride others and misuse words you clearly don't understand (see the bolded words highlighted for you).

  20. My Mom met Rod Hill and had him sign some stuff she had on her for me and my older brother. She told me the interaction was something like this: "Oh hi, are you a somebody?" 'Yes I play for the Bombers' "can you sign these things for my sons they love you guys" /Cool story bro /FU i love my Mom and the Bombers

I'm not sure why people keep engaging northernskunk like he's a good faith poster. He won't admit he's wrong even when confronted with direct tweets from the Bombers themselves. He's a bad faith participant and his opinions should hold zero value.

I tend to disagree somewhat. If a professional organization is not putting out the best product possible, then as a fan I should be allowed to know why. Especiallly if it is because they are leaving healthier options to sit on the bench. Plus I only have so much free cash to spend, and I want to support organizations that truly appear to want to win.

  37. why would they go in mostly (I almost said '"all" as seeing St Louis still seem natural) NFL cities... you would think they would target other cities, like the AAAAAAAAF...

  38. Going by stats (because I never saw him play) you have to go with Rod Hill as #1. 5 seasons, a couple of Grey Cup wins. Ridiculous numbers. I have a hard time going with Browne or Bennett because i believe they only played for 3 seasons with the Blue and that takes something off for me as an all time great. So I’m going to go with the young guy pick of Jovon Johnson. For those years, he was part of an exciting group of Bombers that kept me going to games when our offence wasn’t worth turning on the TV for. Six years in blue and gold. A four time all star and defensive player of the year award ( even though Hefney should have won it). Don’t @ me.

  39. I think that not giving the HC the ability to pick his staff is a huge red flag that had nothing to do about being right, or the smartest guy in the room. It may have more to do with having the freedom to do what you feel is right without having upper management second guessing. You are either in charge or you are not, and if they won't let you be in charge of hiring your own staff, what else are they going to decide for you?

  40. Any negativity toward the DIS program stems completely from a cynicism that is at least SOMEWHAT a byproduct of not wanting new immigrants into Canada. I'm not going to straight up use the R word to describe anyone on this board, but Canada is better for our multiculturalism. It's part of what makes us a desirable nation to live and work in.

Who's playing who? All that talk about Mueller boxing him self in, with Manifort So, Mueller lets Manifort toss his Hail Mary and feed info to Trump..... then lets Trump answer the written questions, based on what the Don and his lawyers, thought he had. He now has Cohen - the legal fixer, under lockdown plea agreement. Mueller had Cohen originally convicted under the State of New York so Cohen cannot be pardoned by Trump. Mueller also has the CEO of the Trump organization talking. Between those two, he will have the paper and electronic trails and tapes on a whole bunch of sewage, under the lid. Having already plead guilty to a slew of federal crimes in a separate case in the Southern District of New York in August, and also implicating Trump in the nondisclosure-payment schemes. Only way Cohen can avoid the ole 3 hots and a cot, for the rest of his natural days will be spilling his guts and making sure that Mueller gives the sentencing Judge the high sign. Cohen admitting to lying about Trump’s Moscow property plans, including his plans to travel to Russia and contacts with Russian officials in connection with the project and how long the property plans were discussed within the Trump Organization.....is just the very first tidbit, of a 100 LB "nothing burger" Lost In all the talk about Flynn, Manifort, and Cohen.....is the 30 hours of testimony to Mueller from Don McGahn, the ex-White House lawyer, that could become real problematic. He was in the rooms and involved in a lot of the conversations about firing Comey, the attempts to have McConnell backtrack his recusal, deep six Rosestein impede Mueller, and attempts to misuse the Justice Department for political purposes etc, etc. Muller is somewhat like an an Anaconda.....moves deliberately, but ends up squeezing the life out of you.

If you don't think Trump is racist, then what do you have to to say about his refusal to rent apartments to people of colour back in the 70s? What about his insistence that the group of black and brown men accused of raping and murdering that white women were guilty all these years later, even after they were exonerated by DNA? Anyone who claims he is not racist is lying or willfully blind.
