    2019 Main Training Camp

As mentioned, Neufeld and Harris were sitting out today. The first-team offence was : Matthews-Washington-Adams-Demski-Wolitarsky Bryant-Desjarlais-Couture-Gray-Hardrick Nichols at QB, Augustine at RB. I had a tougher time nailing down the second team offence, but it definitely had OIiveira at RB, Streveler at QB, Simonise and Petermann as receivers. Looked like the other receiver spots were Rasheed Bailey, Kenny Lawler, and Tim Wilson but I'm not 100% sure on those ones... I think they might have switched it up a couple times. The OL looked like Speller at centre, Koczwara at guard, and Briggs/Baker on at the tackle spots... couldn't see who else was at guard. I can't give you the defence at the moment, I was locked in on the offence most of the time. Derek Jones was definitely the #1 safety and he is looking slim, trim and healthy. Great to see. One thing I can say for certain is that we are going to be absolutely deadly in the redzone with both Darvin Adams and Chris Matthews. Already some chemistry developing between Nichols and Matthews. Wolitarsky looked great as well, Bauming tweeted out his huge catch to start off the practice. Hardrick grabbed the ball right after and tried to punt it into the crowd but it went straight up instead... that got a big laugh from everyone. Love that guy. I'm interested to see if we can find room for one of Larry Rose III or John Santiago... both looked really quick but they were not getting reps in the first two offence units. Rose III in particular I thought looked pretty dangerous. As expected, Bennett was running with the third team offence but surrendered some reps to McGuire as well. Sawyer Buettner actually got one rep which I was surprised to see. It was an overthrow that almost got picked but good for the kid getting some action in. Should be lots of good competition at returner and the hands team gets a boost with the additions of Chris Matthews and Willie Jefferson... yes Willie Jefferson. 6'6" with receiver experence and he was getting some reps in on specials. The returner competition looked like it involves Charles Nelson, Lucky Whitehead, and John Santiago.... definitely a few other guys back there too but it was hard to see exactly who. Nic Demski is still involved as well. Overall it was very much a "day 1" outing... hard to get a good read on anyone and it's wise not to jump to any conclusions. The starters looked best.... Wolitarsky, Nichols, Matthews, Adams. Augustine looked comfortable at RB and Oliveira is going to have to win that backup job from him... don't see Augustine letting go without a fight. If I had to pick one new receiver who showed well it would be Kenny Lawler... looks like he has pretty good hands and I like his build as well... looks like a pro receiver to me. Nice day for some football. Noticed they have ripped all the seats out in the northeast and southeast corners in the lower bowl. Not sure what that's all about.

    Congratulations Bombers

Well Done. No excuses here if you don't have a chance to win with your backups why are they on the team. It's football injuries will always happen and are never an excuse. The Head shot at the end did not cause us to loose the game. Good teams don't leave it up to one call, but for the love of god they need to get that hit out of the game, It happens too much to all teams QB's and my feelings on that don't change no matter what jersey colour the QB is wearing. I hope you carry the momentum and break your Grey Cup drought as every fan base that supports there team through thick and thin deserves to be part of a championship win cause it feels awesome. Still sucks we lost thought just glad it was a nail biting quality game. Cheers. Jason

TIDBITS - CJOB Special. (Shorthand version) Walters Moving on from Dressler Flanders - want more return ability - will see. Matthews - he’s focused on NFL, but ‘could’ end up here. O’Shea - regrets losing ‘good’ people, football and otherwise. Jefferson will fit right in. Intrigued to see him play. Ultra competitive West. Negotiations- players will work hard to get what they want. Better partnership and communication now. Couture ready? Yes. Gray will compete. No doubt OL can be as good. TC will determine who’s who and where they play. Streveler- expand his roll..still Matt’s team. Augustine - will have to work on ST & protection. Will be competition 2 spots open on Rec. Petermann & Simonize - both improved. Knox to Wilson. Wilson was slated for MLB. Mexican player in camp? Looking at it. Globalization- to improve revenue streams. Likes the big thinking. Nichols knee injury? Into good training. No knee concerns. Wants to be more consistent. Harris - doesn’t know where the money’s coming from when asked of teams signing Free Agents. Brown & Tait - negotiations? Brown brings up a fund for injuries. Tait - guranteed contracts? No go. Pie is too small. Sask. - Tait says it all depends on Collaros...otherwise - yeesh Brown says they’re going to be terrible and hopes they’re terrible.

Darren Cameron‏Verified account @Darren_Cameron #Bombers have re-signed DE Jackson Jeffcoat to two-year extension. Jeffcoat was to be a free agent next month. Over two seasons in Winnipeg (28 games), he’s recorded 12 sacks, 57 defensive tackles, one INT & three forced fumbles. Recorded four sacks in two playoff games in 2018.

I just can't allow it. I won't be dragged back. Ha! Anyway, it was a pretty low key practice today. A fair bit of special times, skeleton drills (which, you know, hard to get excited about). Guys that stood out to me: Santiago- Explosive on returns. I expect him to rip a long one off next week. Ran the ball well in drills. Augustine- Running and catching he looks quick and smooth Whitehead- catching everything and he can turn a dig route into 50 yard gain. Dale Warren- I saw him bust up a few plays I the back field McCallister- He moves so well for a guy that big, I hope he shows well in the games and sticks around. Matt Hazel- got deep a few times and made some nice catches Not Booch level analysis. But in my defence it was bloody early for a Saturday

My mom went into the bomber store years ago to buy me a jersey and Moreno was in there. She met him and said he was a good looking fella so she bought me his jersey. So pretty much I got his jersey because my mom had the hots for him.

1 Harris. Could be all three stars. 2 o line. Paved the way for Harris controlled the riders rush ends well 3 Jeffcoat. Much Will be said of the hit on bridge. I suspect he will be fined. Still beastly game. Hh Bennett with the teams tackle that stopped the bleeding on that final return. Honorable mention to wolitarski for a fantastic job of running down that td catch

    Thank you Bombers! From Calgary

Just checking a couple of the boards and there’s pretty much a general consensus that Stamps fans were behind the Bombers in this game. Not because we felt the Bombers were the weaker opponents, but you helped us avoid such buffoonery in McMahon Stadium like this: With the Riders eliminated, Watermelons at the grocery stores remain stocked, low budget liquor stores won’t be ransacked, Extra security for McMahon called off, and Calgary Families will feel safer Congrats and Looking forward to facing your team next week! Every year we can keep O'Shea from heading back to Southern Ontario is a win. No reason to get rid of any of that core group of President, GM, Head Coach. None of them are on the hot seat. The team is always ready to play and has been since 2014. The continuity has and will continue to allow the team to build talented rosters. We literally haven't been able to attract the level of free agent we've attracted yearly from 2016 on since the early 90's.

Yep. Its a cruel cruel world. not long ago mo and randle were two of our best, and the leagues best defenders and dbs. Today they are both out of work and could be out of football. Randle was such a monster for us, and he came here at a time that FA vets didnt come to winnipeg. He was here through some awful days. He is a big part of what we have today, both in terms of class and quality. It doesnt last forever, and it never lasts long enough. I wish the best for him in football and in life.

Game Notes - WINNIPEG @ REGINA

CFL Game #92 West Semi-Final - Winnipeg at Saskatchewan:  Switching Teams: Winnipeg's projected roster for this game has 8 players who once played for Saskatchewan (W.Dressler, N.Demski, K.LaFrance, J.Hecht, C.Rempel, J.Hardrick, P.Neufeld & R.Lankford). The Riders have 4 , 5 former Blue Bombers in their lineup (S.Hurl, C.Marshall, J.Johnson & B.LaBatte, and Poop Johnson)  September 8th WPG vs SSK: In this game, part of the 2-1 season series triumph for the Riders, BOTH QBs left the game early due to injury. Brandon Bridge led 4 late drives and produced 6 points on two Field Goals that won the game. Chris Streveler played the entire 2nd half in relief of Matt Nichols and led the Bombers to a late 27-26 lead which they failed to hold.  2018 Season Series Comparison: The teams compared closely in 2018 in a number of key areas. Winnipeg outscored Saskatchewan 81-63 thanks to a recent 31-0 win, however Saskatchewan took 2 of the 3 games. The critical area of 2nd Down Conversions was a key as Winnipeg held the Riders to just 32%, well below the CFL average of 46%. 👁‍🗨 Winnipeg had the advantage in 5 out of 8 key categories: points, net offence, less two-and-outs, 2nd down conversions and rushing yards. Saskatchewan had more turnovers, scored more points off turnovers, and had 2 more sacks.  The Riders scored 15 Touchdowns on all returns this season.  The Riders scored 11 TDs on Defence this year.  Better SSK Defence than Offence: In 8 games in 2018, the Riders' defensive unit actually had at least as many or more Touchdowns than their Offence including their final game of the year vs BC that clinched a home playoff berth (2 TDs).  8 INTs for 30 points vs the Bombers in 2018: The Riders intercepted Matt Nichols and Chris Streveler 8 times in 2018. From those 8 INTs, Saskatchewan created 30 of their 63 points (48%) in the 3-game season series. Overall, 33 of their 63 points in 2018 vs the Bombers came off of Turnovers.  Nichols and Collaros in the Playoffs: Matt Nichols has a Career 1-2 Playoff record and oddly LOST his best two starts but won his poorest (for Edmonton in 2014). Nichols' 35 completions in the 2017 Semi-Final 39-32 loss to Edmonton was a Winnipeg club record and ranked as #3 all-time, just 3 completions short of the CFL playoff record of 38 (set by Kerwin Bell for Toronto in 1998). Zach Collaros has just two career playoff starts and to date has yet to throw a TD pass in a playoff game (though he did have one in the 2014 Grey Cup). His record is 1-1 last winning back in 2014 over Montreal. Zach Collaros in 2018: Started 14 games in 2018 but did not finish 4 of them (Jun 21 v OTT, Sep 8 at WPG, Oct 13 at WPG & Oct 27 vs BC). Two of those DNF's came against the Bombers and the Riders went 2-2 in these 4 games.  3 TDs on Offence: The Bombers offence has been so consistent lately that they have a 7-game streak with at least 3 TD drives. They were the only CFL club two score at have at least 2 TD drives in EVERY game in 2018.  Matt Nichols in 2018: The Bombers' #1 QB missed the first 3 games but then started 14 in a row. He failed to finish only one game (Sep 8 vs SSK) other than being pulled due to the Bombers' being well ahead. Nichols threw for 300+ yards just once but that came in their crucial playoff-clinching victory over Calgary in his last start. Nichols ended up 9-5 overall and 3-3 on the road.  Nichols & Collaros II: In 14 starts each, Matt Nichols and Zach Collaros were in the lower half of the CFL's leading passers on a yards per start basis in 2018.  3 TDs on Offence: The Bombers offence has been so consistent lately that they have a 7-game streak with at least 3 TD drives. They were the only CFL club two score at have at least 2 TD drives in EVERY game in 2018.  Sayles' Last 10 Games: Marcus Sayles made 72 Total Defensive Plays in his last 10 games - that rate taken over the full season would have given him 130, just 3 off the CFL leader Alex Singleton (133) and more than Adam Bighill (127).  Nichols' Streak: Matt Nichols comes into this game with a 5-game win streak as a starter with wins over both 1st place teams.  Playoff experience: Winnipeg's projected starters/kickers have 68 career games; Saskatchewan's have played 72 playoff games.  Josh Bartel: Had the lowest qualifying punt average at 30.9 but not one single among 122 punts.  Ed Gainey: Had zero interceptions in the first 9 games of 2018, but finished strong with 3 in the 2nd half of the season.  1st Half Team: The Bombers outscored the opposition 335-196 (+139) in the 1st half but were -8 in the 2nd half/OT in 2018.  Chandler Fenner: Wound up #2 in Special Teams Tackles with 24 - and he had 8 in his final 3 games.  Mike Miller: Ended the season with 22 ST Tackles and a streak with at least one in 8 straight games.  Alexandre Gagne: Ended the season with 23 ST Tackles and a run with at least one in 11 straight games.  Shaquelle Evans: Had a team-leading 785 receiving yards but zero TDs, the highest yardage total in CFL history without a TD.  Justin Medlock: Closed his season with a perfect 10-for-10 on FGs before sitting out last week ahead of the playoffs.  Darvin Adams -Comes into this game with a 3-game TD streak and 15 catches for 270 yards, his best 3-game run of 2018.  Brett Lauther - Finished up at 90% on FGs. He missed only 3 times in the first 14 games, but had 3 misses in the last 4 games  Kevin Fogg - Tied with Jonathan Rose for the CFL lead in Turnovers Created with 10 (4 INTs, 3 Fum returns, 3 Forced Fumbles)  Roosevelt didn’t catch a pass against B.C., ending his streak of consecutive games with at least one reception at 50  Both clubs also go into the post-season on a 5-1 run. All in all, their method of winning games has been similar. But O’Shea isn’t fooled..

There is a very real problem of a high number of Rider posters that come here purely to troll. There is immediate suspicion on anyone who comes here under the Rider banner, is here to troll, because over 95% that come here do just that. It is unfortunate that every Rider fan here gets lumped into that category, and is jumped on by some posters, but there is good reason that it happens. I just banned a “semi regular” Rider poster here yesterday. Turns out he had signed up with 3 accounts, one with a very insulting name. It gets so tiring dealing with the stupid games people try to play, and the tolerance level gets lowered every time.
