  1. How did I end up on Riderfans?
    18 points
  2. First Eskimo touch.....Robinson guy runs back punt 95 yds for TD...... Nichols getting some pressure and pops, early....... Randle fights receiver for ball...Clarke guy grabs INT..... Harris takes screen and rips a run, for a couple of first downs.... Nichols then hits Bowman in end zone, for 15 yd TD pass Zach Cline come in to QB the Esks.....sacked on first snap.... ..then chucks up 50 yd sideline pass.... D. Adams draws long PI call for about 50 yards..... Bowman can sure find his way open against zone D.... Medlock makes it 10-7 Robinson not getting much ground, since his TD return...... Jake Thomas flushes QB out of pocket.....Opo gets the sack Thomas then clobbers Cline, who scrambled out of the pocket.... Nichols overthrows Bowman couple of times..... One which turns into an INT, with a long return.... ...but Bowman will be a key component of this O. Cline looking shaky, since the Thomas hit...... Taking a sack from Roh....doesn't help Constant pass rush from the Blue D.... AJ Coney returns a missed FG 65 yards..... Demski catches his 1st as a Bomber..... ...then draws a PI call.... Medlock 45 yds, into the wind...makes 13-7 ...but game really more lopsided than that.. Esks doing nothing on O....their OL getting killed.... Nichols departs....enter Alex Ross.... ...who looks a little nervous in the service.... Danny O'Brian guy now the QB for Esks....... Chris Streveler now at the controls for the Blue. ....hits Wolitarsky for first down, then Adams... Ach du Lieber! Augustine bust up the gut 17 yds for TD.. 20-10....score starting to look....more like it. Opo and Roh, still bringing pressure... Ross rushing things a bit....couple of bad under throws... 2nd half....need to really peruse that ole roster sheet.... Streveler starts 2nd half at QB...scrambles for first down. Simonise makes good leaping catch. The toss/sweep running plays.....could use some work.. Menard-Briere guy makes it 23-10. Two scoring drives for Streveler. Announced crowd of 23,034. Nice try. Streveler throws it up for White, who wins jump ball... ...then turns on the burners and goes 85 yds for the TD Streveler is 7 for 7 and has put 17 points up on the board Thought Ross was supposed to be the experienced guy? Doesn't matter which QB in for Esks....they are all getting the bum's rush. Augustine still running hard.....guy has some pop. Even with reserves in....Bomber D shows plenty of speed... 2nd string officials have some problems with ball placement.... 2nd string scoreboard person...gives Esks a Bomber punt single.. At this point, Eskimo OL holding and tackling, all over the place.. Streveler has nice run up the middle...but doesn't protect ball - fumble. Bomber backup OL doing pretty good work on the run game. Everybody else getting pressure...so Trent Corney gets in on the act.. RB Thomas has some pretty good wheels... Now DE Sam Montgomery make a couple of plays.... Menard-Briere hits a low liner to make it 33-13. This O&S is a bit bigger that I anticipated... So is the gin.

  3. To be honest, I find the continual Manziel Watch from TSN pretty disappointing. Like, I get that having him come up here is worthy of headlines. But the constant update of every tiny detail of his practices or games rubs me the wrong way. Makes it seem like the CFL and its fans are desperate. The CFL was good before Manziel and it'll be good after he's gone. We have got to stop treating these ex-NFLers as royalty, in my opinion. Still waiting for Vince Young to win his first MOP award...

  4. 7 for 7. 129 yards. More like Chris Football.

  5. Rider fans would have said he'd have gone 20 for 10.

  6. Of course not; he would have been more focused on stealing the loonie during the coin toss.

  7. There was one play in I think it was the second quarter where Jake Thomas steamrolled the Eskimo lineman into next week ... couldn’t believe the bullrush

  8. Not going to answer this question at this point. Too early. Let's all settle down a bit.

  9. Ignorant. Playing against guys in the same situation as them, trying to make a team. Even competition.

  10. 1 streveler 10/10 140 yards 1 td with that 80 yard bomb, 4 runs for 37. Had that fumble and tossed it to the flats for a decent loss at one point. But played great for a first time with back ups vs back ups. 2 augustin 8-81 1 catch for 7. really pounded the rock, exploited holes and broke a bunch of tackles. 3 nevis the DL started out really well and played well in general by the sounds of it. nevis was in the backfield a bunch while he was on the field. HH Bighill with a big tackle on teams to swing mo back in our favor and stop early struggles on teams.

  11. Nichols versus Streveller, I think its a good thing. After all, God needs the devil. The Beatles needed the Rolling Stones. Even Diane Sawyer needed Katie Couric. Will Streveller be our Katie Couric?

  12. Strevler and Augustine's success isn't just attributed to being against scrubs..and means nothing. Sure signs of this has gotta be shown against all first stringers for sure..but you need to lose the notion that there is no real thing as fodder at this level and that all the competition guys face now is greater than anything they faced in college..so if they showed well then they are doing things right. Also if Strevler was throwing to first stringers behind the starting oline and Augustine was running behind them..then they may have had more time to throw..bigger holes to run thru..etc..etc..u can slice it anyway you like but they both showed promise. Now lets see if they build on it next game and then make some determinations..all in all a lot of positives and our rookies fared better than sask rookies against same competition so that says something

  13. Augustine ran the ball well and looked good. Offense looked terrible to start and then seemed to settle in. Nichols looked good overall (didn't like the pick) and he and Bowman showed some nice chemistry. Bowman is going to be a great addition. Darvin made a couple of nice catches. Demski looked good. White's TD was the play of the game, just a sick play and I'll throw in a you need to get this kid on the roster. Simonise had a nice reception where he really had to sky to nab it while taking a hit. Harris is Harris. Streveler looked impressive. Ross looked awful, could not complete a pass with many poor throws. On defense, the DL played well. Nevis, Poop, Oka, Thomas, Roh, Corney.

  14. "Means nothing" Why do they do it then? Sure you don't judge the guys who have already made the team, but it's pretty huge for everyone else on both sides. And those guys are in the same spot. A guy like Streveler is in the running for best QB this week in all the pre-season games. That means something, because all those guys are playing the "scrubs."
    3 points
  15. So basically teams shouldn't have a training camp and pre-season then since half the players won't make their team. You really think there's no value in what took place on the field?
    3 points
  16. Meh i wouldn't get to over excited about these guys... they were playing against complete scrubs. The only takeaways is that White will make the team and that Ross better do something next week because 1/8 against scrubs is not a good first look.

  20. WEEK 8 vs Hamilton. Bombers 39 Hamilton 12. No stats for backup QB. Banjo Bowl Bombers 48 Riders 28. No stats for backup QB WEEK 14 vs Ottawa. Bombers 29 Ottawa 9. Davis gets 3 reps, probably on the last drive of the game, even though the Bombers were up 22-3 going into the 4th. WEEK 17 vs BC. Bombers 26 BC 20. Nichols throws for 176 yds and 0 TDs and looked awful. No backup time. WEEK 19 vs BC. Nichols gets injured and our QBs combined have thrown a handful of passes, and subsequently look awful. All I'm saying is, get the backups some time when you have the opportunity. There are 4 scenarios listed above where they could have confidently put in a backup because the game was in hand... but didn't. So do they have these opportunities often, maybe not... but when they do, take advantage of them.

  21. You're missing the point I was making.... failure in that they haven't given the other QB's more playing time when they've had the chance. There were lots of games last year where the game was totally in hand, where they could have thrown in Davis to get him some seasoning, but they'd keep rolling out Nichols right to the bitter end. That doesn't help development. By no means was last year a failure at all... I'm talking about one facet, sorry you misunderstood what I was saying...

  23. I can relate Booch. I had the same amount of knee surgeries minus one on the second knee. Tore all the ligaments twice in the right knee. First time was at age 17 and the second time I was 19. They had to take tendons from the left to use to graft the ligaments in the right. Meniscus was eventually taken out at 24 because you can only shave it down so many times. The pain from arthritis throughout my late 20s and and 30’s was torture. It was to the point I was chewing up percs like they were coming out of pez dispensers. Finally and thankfully in 2015 at the age of 42, I got my knee replaced and i have zero pain. Dr Burnell from Concordia hip and knee clinic is absolutely amazing. I don’t even need to take an Advil anymore. Right hip needs to eventually be replaced, but cordisone shots every 6-9months are doing the job for now. I totally recommend getting a replacement if one is required. I can’t begin to tell you how much of a difference it makes and the improvement of quality of life.

  24. He was playing against a lot of guys who won't be here in 2 weeks so let's take a breath before we annoint Streveler "The Next One". We're all happy he played so well but let's temper our enthusiasm a bit here & be a bit more realistic.
    2 points
  25. Lol. If this were RF.com we would already have a spot waiting for him in the plaza and have him passing for 6500yrds this season.
    2 points
  26. Interesting to look at, if Streveler didn’t fumble on his big run we could be looking at him scoring at this controls on 4/5 drives.
    2 points
  27. And Streveler is younger than he was coming into the league IIRC. And btw, I don't think it's too early to get excited about a backup. I mean really, we're not talking about a starter. This team is Nichols's and will remain such hopefully for a long time. But I've had the belief we can put out our own groomed QB into the market like Collaros or the aforementioned Franklin, and Streveler sure looks like a good bet to do it. Just hopefully we'll have him a couple seasons as the injury insurance policy

  29. Not all scrubs. As per John Hodge @ 3DN: "Tommie Draheim and Kelvin Palmer, both of whom have started meaningful games in the CFL, struggled mightily against the Bombers’ pass rushing trio of Jackson Jeffcoat, Craig Roh, and Tristan Okpalaugo.

  30. I like the Nevis pick. I thought he looked like a beast heading into laat season but it didn't really work out that great. This year he looks pissed off and even beastlier.

  31. Wolitarski was solid, basically played the possession receiver role.
    2 points
  32. They did everything that was expected of them and more so why not be happy about it? Rookie qb in his first pro experience goes 10/10 passing, that's a pretty special night regardless of the competition. Yeah it might not mean a lot in the long term but tonight it's impressive. No other qb looked that good tonight.

  33. You truly are missing the point, and just running sideways now.
    2 points
  34. You are completely missing the point. While it's nice that some guys lit it up.... do you honestly think Streveler goes 10/10 and Augustine gets all those big runs against Edmontons starters? With a name like JuranBoldenRules I would of assumed you have watched pre season games in years past and may have seen many QB's , RB, WR with gaudy pre season stats to only end up getting cut or fizzling out. If you honestly think that Augustine or Streveler are world class bona fide CFL starters right now then you have the strongest blue tinted glasses ever. It's nice that these guys had a good game against Edmonton's back ups back ups back ups but it means jack squat until they can perform against real CFL players. I have no idea why you say that Training camp doesn't matter or bringing this up at all, of course training camp matters only someone completely clueless about football would even bring that topic up.

  35. And compared to the Sask performance against those same Esk backups, Streveler looks much better.

I just find him to be too inconsistent for my liking. Ricky Ray may be boring but he is the same game to game. That kind of player earns a coach's trust.

  37. Sounds like Streveler has some skills, good to see even if it is against the Esks scrubs. The other thing I am gathering from the radio is that the Bombers defensive line is having a hell of a game.

  39. Yeah i guess 21-9 as a starter and a near MOP season last year just isnt enough for the unwashed masses in shitsville. The anti Nichols campaign is trumpeted by their leader, the useless sack of monkey s*** himself, Rod Pedersen. He routinely spouts off to anyone who will listen that Nichols is a bum. But ask him about Collaros, a QB thats been shell-shocked and utter garbage for 2+ years and its "Grey Cup here we come!!".
    2 points
  40. Andrew Harris didn't cover the weaknesses of Drew Wiley, Dan LeFevour or Dom Davis. Nichols deserves more respect from the media.

  41. To use a football analogy with your son & football. Run with it. Enjoy the journey & let him have every opportunity to succeed. My son was a qb in Calgary. I put him in a lot of qb camps when he was a bantam & high school player. It was nothing for us to get into the car & drive a thousand miles to a football camp in Idaho, Washington, Oregon & California. The camps were great & he learned a ton but the chance to spend time with my son in the car... goin' down the road... just talking & hanging out together was priceless. You never get that time back when your kids get older & move on with their own lives. A coach at one of those camps saw my son, liked him & recommended him to the coach of the junior college team he would eventually play, start for & win a State championship with in Northern California. So, you never know who is watching & when opportunity presents itself.

  47. against Andrew Buckley and I can't even remember the guys name... Trust me I was there watching that game Lefevour didn't do **** to win that game, he was just less shitty than the Calgary backup qbs.
