  1. I went yesterday to the afternoon camp. Didn’t stay for too long, but have a few notes that I took down. take it for what it’s worth First thing I saw when they were warming up I saw Demski and Lafrance catching one handed passss. Lafrance caught every pass one handed and made it look machine like. Made me think that Lafrance might be capable of catching passes out of the backfield pretty well, kind of like Harris as a utility - jack of all trades- back. For all the talk about Corey Washington, sure noticed that he wasn’t tracking the ball too well and dropped a couple easy passes. Seemed to settle in later in the practice but I noticed him in a bad way. Regardless, pretty big and seems to a polished route runner. Tyler Henry made a nice catch in tight coverage. Looked fairly impressive for a Canadian option, was he in camp last year? Coney is FAST and pretty illusive. Tony Stevens was the most impressive of the bunch in my opinion. sam brown got burned bad a couple of times. thats all I noticed, sorry I don’t have more to contribute. Oh and p.s was nice to see #1 Darvin adams just being around the team. Wasn’t competing but was throwing passes to some of the receivers when they were running drills. Dude has a hell of an arm

  2. some observations... LB's Gause ...thick..fast ..agile and looks to be front runner as the MLB..or at the least the DI spot. For a bigger guy very agile and capable of covering sideline to sideline as he showed in skelly...has a powerul jab/punch and would have no issue scrapping along line and shedding blocks to stuff the run...very impressed Wilson too..very similar but not as agile...but plays with confidence..as did Gause. Not as quick as Gause but would have no issue covering a back in the flats and playing sideline to sideline...I would say him and Gause are prime candidate for the MLB role and I think Gause is the better,,,he's just darn good Jones is not as quick and not as agile..but solidly built...practices like this are hard to judge a guys true worth, but he is behind the two I mentioned..though he looks to be a guy who could lay the lumber. Be interesting TC and if we roll all import at Linebacker i could truly see JSK/Gause and Legget/Fenner with Wilson or maybe Wild as the extra...if we able to roster wise have all those guys that be sweet but one of Wilson/wild i think will be PR'd or cut DB's Hate to Roc Carmichale a guy but Earl Wolff will start...smooth..savy pro who has extra greasy swivel to him and can just manouver and adjust at will to put himself in position to just make plays...and he is solid too...I actually wouldn't be surprised to see him at SAM too...he one way or another will be on the roster and a guy who can play..and excell at CB/HB/SAM...not sure why he isn't stlll in the NFL...BUt it's our gain..guy is legit...just knows where he is and where things were headed and has nose for the ball Bingham too also impressed...looked confident and has a real knack for arriving the ame time as the ball and busting things up...didn't give up much cushion and can really see him fitting in this defense as a ball hawk..With him..Wolff..Fenner..Leggett..Randle...i see it being a tough camp for one of..if not any of Fogg..Gaitor or Clarke sticking...gonna be a good battle...nobody else really stood out, but again...was watching multiple things going on so its tough. receivers...man if we could have this ratio thing cleared up to start 4 imports we have some talent to choose from with options to start4 and have 2 back-ups on roster not named Lankford Best of group is Stevens by far..silky smooth...fast and just has ability to seperate easily..and often....he can run his routes and cut like Denmark could without gearing down but is big and can win battles for the ball...how he isn't kept around would be troubling. Never seen him drop a thing and everything he does just looks polished Same can be said about C Washignton...big..knows how to use that body and he is very quick for a dude his size..real nice hands and with this feild size..already seems to know where to find the seams and get the ball in stride...he could cause all kinds of havoc in the middle third of the field... Can also see why Myles White was kept all yr..and brough back...lightning in a bottle and is so fast..out of his cuts..and once ball hits his hands..which are real good..best route runner out there..has a fifth gear he can jump into on the fly and tracks balls better than I have seen here in a long while..I hope he gets to show his return abilities becuse he has them too and can be a reason for us to be abe to roster hopefully 2 import receivers as a backup on game day... LDW as well still has to be in the conversation..he has gained some size and looks more comfortable and polished...and his route running is much improved..he runs with meaning and purpose now it seems...confidence a familiarity does that..I also noticed he did some work on technique and is now a hand catcher as opposed to using his body as much..good on him as it allows receivers to play with speed better (which he has ample amounts of )and catch balls in stride... I also noticed A.J Coney...he is quick and runs sharp routes and once ball is in his hands seems to be a threat to bust a big play...could be a camp dark horse...not sure if he is a returner..but that could be an ace in the hole for him Anyway thats my opinions and thiughts..feel free to comment or rip it apart hahahaha

    NFL Draft

I'll be paying close attention to the Cleveland Browns in the NFL draft over the next few days. Currently Geoff Gray is a fringe roster player but that could change depending on how many offensive lineman the Browns end up drafting and where they draft them. Typically NFL teams like to carry 9 offensive lineman on the gameday roster and 2 of them tend to be young developmental guys. Geoff Gray will be in a battle to stick as one of the two developmental lineman. If healthy, tackle Rod Johnson who the team drafted in the 5th round last year would be in line to be one of the two making the roster. Gray would currently be competing with undrafted free agents Victor Salako and Christian Schneider for that final roster spot. No doubt they will bring in more undrafted free agents this season but the real wildcard here is the fact that the Browns are loaded with 12 picks in this year's draft. They could use a first or 2nd round pick to draft a tackle to compete for the starting job which is currently available but this would have little impact on Gray as it would likely lead to a veteran backup being beat out. What I'm most interested to see is if they pick any offensive lineman in rounds 4 through 7 who would be very hard to release after having given them signing bonuses and have spent draft picks on them. Typically 20% of picks are used on offensive lineman in the NFL. So the way I see it they pick one in the first two rounds and then 1 or 2 later on in the draft to develop. In a few days we should have a much better idea of what Gray's realistic chances are of sticking with the Browns this season. I view this season as a make or break year for him. He needs to make a roster. There's simply too much attrition going on and after failing to crack two rosters so far this could be one of the last opportunities he has to stick it out in the NFL. By next season he'll be 24 and no longer viewed as a developmental project. He'll undoubtedly start being viewed for only what he currently brings to the table. The clock is ticking. I hope he does well but deep down I would love to see him come up here and have a long career for the bombers.

I was hoping for double elimination. I will settle for watching Leafs' fans hopes go wayyy up before the Bruins crush them. I hope the Bruins are swept in the next round.

  5. Quentin Gause #42 is a very thick guy. Broke up a play in his area. Physically solid. Was probably the second heaviest guy out there, behind Goosen. Kind of a nice day within the stadium but windy as heck outside. No Durant, confirmed. Notable on the D, #37 Zavian Bingham dB, played the receivers physically and very tight breaking up plays and got a few cheers from fellow D men. He was mugging L. Washington but Wash still came up with a one handed grab. #45 Chinedu Oparuku good size and appeared eager. #19 Kylie Wilson looks like he’ll be competing for a LB position, focused. #12 not on field but #18 replaced him. Have no idea who #18 is. #16 Tyler Stewart threw the ball the hardest of all four qbs out there. 15 and 13 rounded out the qbs. #13 Nelson looked the most challenged of the qbs. #32 Cierre Wood RB is enthusiastic, fast, and hustles. Might be his schooling. He sure brought it. Receivers, good news bad news. #87 Tony Stevens has presence out there and is going to compete for a job, with Lankford and Washington. #14 Myles White grabbed a long pass and outran a couple dbs for a TD. #12 Adarius Bowman, he’s big, but, oh, hate to say it, he dropped a couple. #44 Prewitt should go home. Disinterested. all numbers on jersey are for mini camp only.

Ummm...yes, yes they are wrong. Like...really? The treatment of women, religion (especially Jews), gays, etc. Just google it. Of course they are wrong. In regards to WWE, if you only get your news from Twitter or only judge what is newsworthy from Twitter, you might have missed the BBC article about this issue. Personally, I think the WWE is faring surprisingly well but they often fly under the radar when it comes to Media. The issue isnt that WWE should be judged more harshly than other entertainment or sports companies or the government. If the NHL or NFL or Disney did business there, we'd all rightly be critical of the finer details. But now imagine any of those entities had a female EVP who was the face of the company who went around patting themselves on the back for their advancement of women's rights and then did business in Saudi where that EVP is suddenly conspicuously absent and all the female employees are absent. We're not going to change the world on this forum and WWE isnt going to change Saudi Arabia by not going. We dont know if WWE fought for the women and it was simply a non-starter with the Saudi's or if they were happy to sell them out. Do I personally think WWE should have declined? Probably not. But if I was an exec with WWE I'd feel really gross about it. Now imagine WWE announced a show where their black wrestlers werent allowed to work and black spectators could only attend in certain sections. Of if the gay wrestlers had to stay home because they might be in physical danger. I mean really... Point being, the "no one cares about this at all" is a nice narrative change because it was a topic I posted, but its not true and its a very relevant discussion. You're not obligated to take part but Ill commend you for having the courage to admit you side with the Saudi's on their treatment of women!

Perhaps we'll get insight like: How Matthews feels about the Jets. How Babcock would set up the Jets power play. How far would the Jets go if Anderson was in net. If the Jets played in Mississauga, would Cherry attend the games. Who's the best former Leaf to play with the Jets 2.0. If the Leafs were in the Central how many records would they have achieved this season. How much better is Marner than Laine. When is Laine a UFA. Where does Tavares start for the Leafs next year. There's a leaf on the Jets jersey, so are they truly Toronto's team. Jets owner lives in Toronto, so does Toronto own them too. If the game starts at 7 central, what time is that in the centre of the universe. Can Matthews get another Calder this year. Can the Leafs send Marner and Matthews to the Marlies to help them with Jr Stanley Cup. Why is the NHL still on TV when the Marlies are playing.

  10. I used to love Lovey's but found that it tended to be inconsistent and really seemed like it was only good if the old man was working. Famous Dave's at times can be slow service but the food is always above average for me. When Danny and Bucks had a place it was pricey but the meat and the sauces were really good. When Woody's was open on Grant that place was terrible and the meat was extremely dried out. We went to Smokin Hawt this past weekend with an open mind and with high hopes since it's only a few minute drive from home. I ordered the Brisket, you get two thick pieces that was cooked nicely. The rub tasted like peppercorn and a bit of salt and not much else. They don't serve it with BBQ sauce or anything. The sides I had was a mac and cheese which was probably twice as big as the portion you get at Famous Dave. It had some kind of white cheese in it... but to us it tasted like water and really nothing else. Kind of reminded me of making kraft dinner but only using 1/4 of the powdered cheese pack with it. The other side I had was a cole slaw which was also large in portion , oil/vinegar base but once again no flavour aside from some pepper on it. My wife had pulled pork which was served with a small cup of BBQ sauce , it was very moist and juicy but once again the only flavour came from the BBQ sauce. The best thing we had was my daughter eating a sausage in a bun, the sausage was really tasty. We also had the potato "chips" which was better then famous daves since they don't over salt it like at FD. Everything is cooked / smoked well ... just needs some flavour and they probably should get some fries or items for kids to eat. I do wonder how they will do since Harbour View is kind of dead these days and in winter I can't imagine people wanting to park and walk in the cold.

  16. Many thought the same of the Jets going into the season. Maurice had been on the hot seat the previous two seasons, his contract extension wasn't well received, and retaining him would be a mistake by TNSE. The Bruins finished third in the Atlantic Division last season with 95 points and made the playoffs. The Jets, OTOH, finished with 87 points and well out of a playoff spot. Just my two pennies but I think taking the latter from basically a bottom feeder to second in the entire NHL is considerably more impressive than what the former accomplished. In any case, Gallant is winning the Jack Adams this year. It's not even close.

In my opinion, what the WWE is doing could potentially be a catalyst for large scale change in Saudi Arabia, which would be remarkable really. Right now, they follow the Saudi rules and get their foot in the door. Maybe next year it's a little looser and by the end they have women competing and watching in the crowd unfettered. An all-or-nothing approach rarely works. Chipping away slowly at old attitudes just might.

It doesn't. Morality is relative. You may believe we've got it all right but in 50 years people may look back at us with disgust. It doesn't mean we're wrong now, it just means that's where our society currently is. And just like our society advanced naturally through internal struggle, we must respect the right of other societies to advance at their own pace. It's the absolute height of privilege and entitlement to demand that other societies immediately change in response to changes in our own society.

While I agree that Saudi Arabia's treatment of women and other minorities is abhorrent, right and wrong are relative terms. There is no judge of right or wrong other than what society decides. And just because western society has decided that certain views are right or wrong, doesn't make it objectively true on a global level.

  38. If the Dems take the house in November there is a good chance trump gets impeached. But it’s highly unlikely the senate would convict (and remove him) unless something (perhaps Mueller’s report) swings the GOP against Trump. The GOP might see a better chance of future victory with Pence but Trump would tear the GOP apart. They don’t want that. The question though, if trump is impeached, would he go through a senate trial even if he thinks he’ll win or would he prefer to resign rather then face that scrutiny? Plus he could make the same deal Nixon did and resign to elevate Pence who would then pardon him (and his family). Losing the presidency is one thing. You and your kids going to jail is something else.

WWE getting some backlash this week over the trip to saudi. Women are not allowed to appear on the show. The backlash is partially about doing business with people that won’t allow women but moreso because wwe champions itself as a forward thinking company on women’s rights and equality. Some tslk that Jews are not allowed as well but last word wasn’t a Heyman will be there. The Saudi government bought the show and are using it for propaganda. They restricted single men to areas far from the ring. Of course single women aren’t allowed at all. But most of the seats are reserved for couples and families so they can show women (just not alone). Its very lucrative for wwe but it’s gross money. I saw a journalist suggest wwe (or the top guys benefitting from this show) pay the women what they’d earn if they were allowed to appear. Do something at least.

  45. I was there today in the morning, but it was hard to come away with much info. Everybody looked roughly the same at the start. I had read Tait's preview article before going so I must admit that I focused more on some of those guys. Out of the new QBs, I thought Philip Nelson was the best. In the 7 on 7s he started with a ball in the turf on a short out to an RB, but then was on fire after that. Had a huge completion down the middle to a WR that had everyone excited. Nelson himself was fist-pumping after that one. Had some nice deep ball throws too. Lankford had a nice deep catch and beat some of the new CBs pretty handily with his speed. Washington reeled in a few short tosses. The surprise of the day for me was watching Wolitarsky more. His routes were excellent, leading to a bunch of crisp catches. I couldn't pick out much from the new DBs. Plenty still learning the game and rules, so there were a lot of receiver wins in the one-on-ones.

  48. We are Better at the QB position (Nichols and Durant and any rookie are Better than what we had last year) Status quo at RB (Possibly better as we may see looks with Harris/Demski/ Lafrance/Flanders all in motion giving defenses fits) Better at receiver ( with or without having to start 2 Canadians) though depth is suspect at this time O-line we are weaker with loss of Bond ( Still a top 3 team in terms of O-line tho...depth could be issue if we get nailed with injuries) D-line we are better even with loss of Westerman. (Being able to go all import is going to help and Corney and Ekakite are going to be better as they grow too...no concerns there) DB's are better as more depth and more experience. Heath loss if you ask me is a no big deal... Linebacking...weak last year...and still concerns this year until we see who..what..and where is on field and if scheme was issue last year or personnel. ST's...status quo...and most likely better this year as Medlock had off year and punt return was non existent for better part of the yr...so any production at all from there will make us upgraded..and our cover teams were lights out for most part and we added Fenner who is a demon This team should be a 12-6 team again and if the defense steps up at all and corrects the issues that plagued it you can maybe factor in an extra win there..possibly 2...especially if the offense keeps evolving...can't see it taking a step backward this year..so a 13-14 win season if you ask me isn't far fetched...
