2026 Bombers Season
I wonder if we are planning to roll out a double-tight alignment this year. With Wallace sliding out to T, a significant glut of OL despite the starters being set, moving Clercius to slot, bringing in another NI WR on starter money, plus drafting Daniels while also having MCI, it would make sense. Not to mention the American C, who played much of the first preseason game (they love Eli in the Te Pack) Our new heavy set would be double tight instead of just 1 te. That would give us 7 blockers on 4 DL and 2 lbers, guaranteeing at least 1, if not 2, double team blocks and forcing DBs to be 1-on-1 with the RB, but also with a big blocker, which would have the D wanting to sub to go heavy with 1-2 players as well, which would leave us needing to have Heavies who are also passing threats. As teams are carrying extra DL currently, but not full-size linebackers, especially not ones capable of man covering. Daniels isn't the best runner, but he's faster than Eli. (Who they like pass catching, crazy as that is.) The plan might be Wallace/Eli/Daniels as 1 TE more as primary blockers, but guys who have varying ability to release, and a guy like MCI/Clercius/Nield on the other spot doing more blocking and release on pass plays and more routes than blocking. And while the D is focusing on run fits and figuring out who covers the big guys, the likes of White/Wilson/Demski are left as afterthoughts to run mostly 1-on-1s with minimal help. Even the imp RB, rocker, is a big do-it-all tweener back. The depth of Canadian WRs we have are almost all big, slow, block and good hands types. It also kind of aligns with the volume of huge OL we have this year. We have 7 guys easily passing 330lbs. Vs just 2 under 305, and 3 under 310. Out of 14 ol in camp. We look like we are in an arms race, prepping for trench warfare in the run game. There is some precedent for this down south, 3 teams have been running 13 formation, most notably the Rams. Who are a team with a similar run pack, and who we have had more than a little overlap with in passing concepts going back through the last 3 OCs.

2026 CFL Around The League (Not Bombers Specific)
It would, the primary purpose of most of those trades would be 1 getting more years of high-level play at QB and getting it significantly cheaper. Now it doesn't mesh great with the age of the additions this offseason to go all the way young. But a guy like Va would balance that. And while I don't particularly like him, it would be a smart move if available. This year, marketing money has been cracked down on by the CFL. It's not what it was previously. The last 2 years zach is putting up 238 yards per game, and basically 1:1 tds to int and 1 each per game. No qb in the league has as many terrible games over the past 2 years. Let's be realistic, around the league, Zach is the lowest-tier starting QB. We hope, and reasonably so, that he can get back somewhat to a high level of play with our additions. But no one else in the league would trade for and start Zach today. It's also been a long time since he was close to healthy. At this point, while I'm optimistic about him for this year, I think the chances he is playing and serviceable next year are very close to 0.

You start smith and use Kyrie as the naturalized player. Save the DI spot. Will that happen? I think its a matter of time. MIght not happen at the start of the year (though it should) but I think by late season he will be starting. Hes looked pretty good in TC from what Ive seen. Great flow to the ball guy. Work to do in cover, but great instincts, plays fast and strong. They picked on his side late. But what was happening is the switches in Jys split field cover zone weren't happening. With the PA cameras, it wasn't clear that 1 guy was messing everyone up, but the whole side was struggling. But the deep cover assignment was the most problematic, which wouldn't be stuarts assignment.

Stuart was picked on, but he was around the play just a few steps behind. As a rookie probably should expect that. The key will be processing faster and reacting without thinking.

Stuart was noticeably awful on the field. His name stood out for the wrong reason.

Elgersma throws a great ball, but as I expected, the game is too fast for him, and he made some ill-advised throws. Tim White was great. Did everything they asked for and more. The O-line protected well but didn't open up any running lanes. Two pick-sixes off of backup QBs should have been the story of the game, but the 3rd stringers let it get away. Looked like a lovely day at the ball park, way better than that eastern rain bowl. Football is back!

I hope so. DI a dlineman and we could bring in Smith every time we rotate Lawson out.

I haven’t seen him in practice, so I’ll take your word for it on his potential at lb. His processing looked more than just a step behind to me.

So do we think Smith will actually get a rotational shot this year? To me, you could start him and have Kyrie as the DI as he can back up both spots, contribute on teams and a smaller role might help keep him healthy but that seems like something the club usually doesn't do.

Rourke was actually fine his first season. Even starting the first game as rookie he looked good. I kinda think that's why Reilly played the second half, he saw the competition. I agree with you on Stuart. The size, speed and versatility is too good to give up on.

The Retirement Thread
He had a fight with teammate Ron Stewart of the Los Angeles Kings over house expenses they shared in April of 1970. Due to the scuffle, Sawchuk had his gall bladder removed & his bleeding liver surgically repaired but he succumbed to his injuries a few days after surgery. Interestingly, the cops cleared Stewart of any wrongdoing & the DA never pressed charges. You'd think there'd have been a manslaughter charge at the very least considering they had a fight. All kind of hush, hush & strange.

Around the NHL 2025-26
How does a lottery help the worst teams rebuild exactly??? Especially the Jets who refuse to sign any quality free agents as we'd have to pay more to get them or are on a no trade to Winnipeg list. I wouldn't be so dead set against a lottery if the no trade destinations were eliminated totally in no trade lists.

Space is the Place
The thing blew up when the landing went wrong. If there were astronauts aboard they'd have been blown to smithereens. The space program set back 5 years.

Stuart was all over the field. The processing is just a step behind but he’s always in the right leverage and he’s always the guy finishing plays at the ball run or pass when he’s on the field. Contrast to a guy like Kelly who is indecisive, too often in wrong leverage as ball is moving out or up field even at year 3, play is always going by him. He can run fast in a straight line but has no football skills physically or mentally to succeed at this level. When it comes to who gets on the roster…..Stuart will be a great special teamer and the sky is the limit on D. I think he’s probably the best WIL/MAC prospect on the field today. But he was playing half in this one.

2026 Bombers Season
When a player walks you suspend him. Nothing more to it than that. You dont just let guys walk out of contracts or you would see guys just walking all over the league whenever the wind changes. If you want out you do it the right way and request your release while working your ass off. You take your ball and go home, you dont get to be a free agents. Elgersma is better at pitch and catch than Collaros. Good to know.

PS Game 1 day thread (finally Bomber football is upon us!)
All in all thought Elgersma was fine. His first pass was a bad drop. Kinda tells the story there.
-
PS Game 1 day thread (finally Bomber football is upon us!)
The only way for Elgersma to learn is thru mistakes. The learning curve is steep. Once he adjusts to the speed of the CFL game then he'll play a lot better. He'll have better days.
-
PS Game 1 day thread (finally Bomber football is upon us!)
For sure Elgersma is 24 years old. Stetson Bennet was throwing footballs in college until he was 26. Way too early to pass judgment, he certainly seems to have a good arm, and I like the way he keeps his eyes down field as he moves around in the pocket to create time, obviously my major problem with him was holding onto the ball too long but not an un common problem with young players. Lots to work on for sure but I’m not worried yet.

2026 CFL Around The League (Not Bombers Specific)
I am a fan, so I obviously have my blue tinted glasses on. Trading Zach would need to accomplish more than a Madden trade where you’re giving up a guy with an 85 rating for a guy with a 88 rating. I do not think the team supported Zach properly the last couple of seasons and I do expect a certain amount of positive regression with the moves we made this year. As to the cap space, in the time of marketing money, I don’t think we’re handicapped in any way by Zach’s contract if we chose not to be. All that said, Brown and Alexander still exist in the world of potential. They have yet to prove themselves over a full season. VAJ is a guy I would have loved to trade for early in his career, but not one I’m giving up Zach for now. Arbuckle isn’t even in the same tier and probably isn’t a guy who can pick up where he left off with a new team.

2026 CFL Around The League (Not Bombers Specific)
still trade for brown/alexander with ease. Significantly cheaper, will still be playing 2-3 years down the road, no signs of playing as bad as zach has the past two years. On top of that, vaj and arbuckle won’t play at a significantly lower level, are also much cheaper and will play significantly longer. We aren’t talking pennie’s under the cap either, we are talking big all star free agent difference. Blm and harris won’t play significantly longer, but have been significantly better over the past two years plus. I expect zach to be a good bit better this year. He will pass a couple of those guys in performance this year, if he stays healthy. By no means do i expect him to pass all those guys.

He did fine for a rook in his first game. be fun to see him next week hopefully with better support. We do need a qb on the pr learning the system incase any one gets hurt though. Maybe some one cuts an interesting name, more likely it’ll be another rookie
